I am attempting to make a landscape with a rock i bought from a pet shop. I have cut the rock and will do some more detail on it with my new rotary tool.

I have just set the base in concrete to stop it from falling over. This concrete base will be covered with peat/soil/ moss

While at the hardware store i came across these saucers which are used as a base for pots. They seem perfect for this type of thing

I may have to drill some drainage holes in it depending on what i plant on this.

Which brings me to my next point/question. I am a little stuck on what i want to plant on this.

I have this ficus that i collected, it was growing out of a sandstone wall. I can get more of them as there are still loads of them growing out of the wall.

I will also have some chinese elm airlayers soon which could also work

So what will it be. Ficus, elm or juniper?

The stone is pretty soft so im assuming that gas to be taken into consideration?

I think the very round hole in the center is a little distracting.
Can you carve it, or hide it?

Seems a very Aussie rock, I would make a very Aussie landscape, with very Aussie trees and plants.

I agree about the centre hole. I had the same thoughts i have already started to carve it but i am not finished yet. I will hopefull make it less circular.

I could use some native ficus.

That ones leave look huge!

@Craigm has a few things that look real desert like, if they reduce enough, I'd look into them.

How about making some cardboard cutouts and placing a few to get a look at the final image?

I'd like to see a few cascading trees.

There's that one type of tree that Robert Stevens uses, the leaves get mad small, some of those would be wicked.
@Vin made a thread on em I think.

I'm quite sure the shape is too familiar to not distract everyone subconsciously.

Oh there are soo many Aussie Natives which already have very small foliage.
Just check out a local nursery for smaller shrubs n stuff or tubestock.

I got banned for some reason?

Anyway...

I finished this landscape. It didnt turn out like i envisioned but i really like it regardless. The junipers still need more training.

I have started a secondversion with a waterfall built into it.
