Getting antsy for spring, looking over some tree pics.
This willow I've posted in a couple willow threads before but thought I'd give it a thread itself.

Pics are spring 2013 before and after spring pruning. 2014, spring, 2015, fall. I hope for a slightly more organized and developed image by midsummer this year. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Man...since the first BSC I have had you and Wee confused sometimes.

Good thing I got it figured.

Dirtbag Rover!

Chainsaw Corvette!

@BK Bonsai If I'm not mistaken....this tree has been grown in a hammock...upside down!

This morning had this. image.jpgimage.jpgMoved around a couple bits I've been meaning to move around, didn't seem to do the image any favours there, maybe in time. image.jpgimage.jpg
Then I did this. I've been trying to set the tree up to be ready for this move this summer. We'll see in a few days how I did.

Wee weeping willow coming up soon!image.jpg

Yeah, just gives a very temporary weeping style to the tree. It's been years since I tried it last. I seem to remember it took about 3 days for the young shoots to bend upwards. Then it only lasts a couple days when returned upright. It's just for fun, could be done for a show though if a person wanted..,

I don't know the species, it was labelled artic willow, it looks like a dwarf form of Salix exigua to me.

Thanks Robin!
Ha, you're like a trusty sidekick here!

So this is where we're at after however long it's been now. Interesting to see the lowest twigs turn sooner than the upper ones for some reason. It's all a bit slower than I remembered though. image.jpgimage.jpg

Nice!

Keep going!

I really like the pot, moss, lil accent, and trunk.

I'd like to see it wired...
Maybe even nonweeping.

Either way...it poses a pleasing image!

Thanks for the update!

And today...

The upper tips are still way slower to pull down than the last time I did this.

Once they all get there I'll remove the guys for a pic, see if things stay in place or not.

Next year will try to do a better job wiring in spring and will time the pruning and hanging a little differently, it will just get better I hope. Still a fun little weeping willow though. I do also like it just fine in the upright form too, this is just fun. image.jpg

Thank you!

I'm quite pleased with the progress myself. Willows are not highly recommended as material, I understand why and even agree in general. I'm starting to think this particular species is quite good though, especially for wee trees.
I saw a nice one in a nursery the other day, a bit of actuall size to the trunk even. It was only $20 and I was feeling to broke to buy it!
Silly, I should go back.

Wow, this is a cool little tree. Nice progression in one season, indeed. I love the red coloured bark on the branches.

I've been looking forward to trying the upside down weeping trick on this tree for a few years now. I'll probably just work on development of a couple portions of the tree next year and try it again the following year. I'll time it a bit differently next time, hang it sooner in the season. It's been 2 years since a repot it would be nice if I can expose some nebari soon.
