Or get a hot wire foam cutting saw...

Cut yourself a recess....

Pin/glue screen in...

And glue the removed chunks back on to hold it more securely.

Dark blue deeper.
Light blue shallow..

Like water.

Like to drill from the inside out button?
That's like some Kama Sutra move isn't it?

Slip potting into a colander would be a capitol good idea. Sorry guys most of the ideas you have offered will not do the tree as much good as putting it into a colander. Do not remove any of the dead wood, not even a little bit of it. In a year if things go the way I see them happening you will be glad you kept the dead wood.

I've run into this video before. It's worth the time to watch, something I will do again latter today when time permits. It goes to show you what the Mugo is capable of becoming in the hands of an artist like Bjorn using a collected tree.

Well this is the first mugo I've managed to keep alive for 2 years, I figured I could throw him on the train.

It's about 3" tall at the moment, I'd like it to be about 5" when it's in refinement.
Did a repot mid July of this year into this cheap pot as a trainer, much to big for the tree but that's what I want right now.
It's got back buds all over the place.

What do you guys think?20160814_093846.jpg 20160814_093912.jpg 20160814_093934.jpg

@Vance Wood or anyone having a clue - I have noticed white "specks" at the base of needles and around buds. Is this normal, like sap or something? The reason I ask is it seems to be growing ok but being my only and first small Mugo I have no clue and have not found it discussed... Thanks in advance!

I can't tell what I am looking at from the pictures. You have to find a way to get closer and isolate what you are talking about.
