It's grown well enough considering how hot it's been here this summer. I've been fertilizing heavily, hoping for a second flush of growth, but it's still in the 90's here pretty much every day, so everything on the benches except the junipers and the tridents haven't done much growing for about 6 weeks.

Another repot from last week. I thought I had a better shot of the nebari this time around but don't. It's still on the board and growing well. Most of the extensions were cut back and it needs a bit of wire. Still a long term project but worth keeping on my bench.

Glad I haven't started any repotting yet...

THE WEEKEND: Much cooler air flows into the state following the cold front Friday night; Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny and cool with a high close to 60 degrees both days. Sunday morning will feature a freeze for most North/Central Alabama communities with lows between 28 and 32 degrees.

Though I'm not sure how much longer they're gonna wait...lots of buds swelling.

Saturday morning's forecasted low is 35F, but my micro climate will actually work in my favor this weekend and I bet it won't fall below 40F in my back yard. Such a crazy year...I had tridents under my deck with visible leaves on them in January.... I have at least 5 landscape tridents with leaves on them right now... the maple in this thread had swelling buds 3 weeks ago and now has leaf edges showing... I have JBP with 4" long candles!!!! All kept out of the sun and on the ground ... crazy!

Do you still have it? I'm really curious to see how it developed

I do... it's currently planted in the yard for about two years now. I've got too many projects and this one got bumped off the bench. It's growing well and I've pruned it back periodically. Maybe next spring, I'll dig it up and check the roots out.

Somehow, this one got stuffed in a 3 gal nursery can and subsequently neglected last fall before it was moved up to MI. Truly, it was the last tree I decided to remove from my yard before moving last year. I was worried 3+ years in the ground would have seriously set back the nebari... but I guess not :) . The chop from years ago rotted out but I think the uro could make an interesting feature, but I'd have to change the front. This one is gonna get some root grafts next year if I don't kill it first.

If you look closely, you can see the dry wall screw that used to hold a long since rotted board to the trunk base.

A nice Bryan Albright pot is now the new training pot for this one.

I forgot to save one of my branches last year for TG, and cut it off 😑 Your tree is really going to gain a lot this year with your placements of new branches! Hope they all take. I looked back at the earlier shots of your hillside yard, and wonder if you miss camp sweat?
