I'm never good at taking before photos as I'm too eager to get going. With that said, here goes.....
Japanese yew dug from my in law's front yard...the after photo is from a few years ago, as it currently looks like a plucked chicken. Ryan Neil helped me move the apex on this one 5 years ago...the apex died and I had to grow a new one:D...I consider this one all mine work wise.

San Jose juniper. This is the earliest picture I could find, unfortunately after I had changed the front and started the branch work and shari...all my work.

Japanese maple cutting maple I struck a long time ago...all my work.

Rocky Mountain Juniper I acquired as completely raw sock. The before picture is after I had got its' first pot and done it's first styling. Ryan Neil helped my move the apex during a work shop probably 3 years later, otherwise, it's all me with this one.

Everything in my yard is my own work, collected myself or from nursery stock.
I've never met an official bonsai master, I've only met about 3 people who actually do bonsai. Visited another garden once. Never been to a demo, workshop, bonsai show or bonsai club. (And it shows some may be thinking, ha!) Never spent much on bonsai, gas, a few pots, fertilizer, wire finally, just got it!
That's not to say I wouldn't like for all those things to happen, anyone want to send a master to my yard? I would be thrilled.
Anyway nothing is quite where I'd like yet but these are my furthest along.

Let me just say how surprised I was to see this Thread! And how Thrilled!
I mean apparently I and another fellow Nutter have been involved in some mass conspiracy as of lately to somehow call out the great amount of fraudulent Bonsai Artist buy saying I would like to see the work that they, themselves do... As well, I guess somehow we do not support our Bonsai Masters here, and that in fact we are trying to rid the very providers of being able to supply us with the great knowledge that they give us? Not quite sure what this great knowledge is? Seeing I have never sought it out and I don't plan too... But Hey?

To switch the tables...
Does Original work done for someone else count?
I do not own the tree... my client does?

Did I mention, all of my trees are my own work? I have never taken classes, or had people work on my trees...
I like that! It is nice to know I did the work, good or bad.

Parsoni before styling... or should I say sitting down to style?

Golden Dewdrop, (Durantra Erectra) shortly after collecting from trash pile in parents yard, after I went through and had to remove a lot of landscaping that got killed off by a hard freeze we had one year later. This was following summer... when collected it had no branches, or foliage.

before.jpg

And 2 years later... with carving done by me...
after.jpg

Unfortunately, this tree got hit again shortly after this photo with another hard unexpected freeze, that even the weather man did not predict.
This time around... it did not make it. Such as life! At least it didn't get run over by a milk truck...

Dont want this thread to be All About Me...

So, I will just share one more... A large Bougie

Do not have a before pic... sorry! When I got this collected material it was just hanging on. It had been collected without any roots at all just chopped. One of my friends who has a landscape biz, showed up with this and a couple of more that he had chopped at a house he mows lawns for... he didnt have the time to dig it, so he just cut, and showed up at my house on the way home, asking if I wanted it.

First year and a half, just let it try and survive.
This first pic is at that time.

Later that year, I did a first style and did a repot.

It shortly after responded with this.

I am currently on its 3rd year of development, and just continuing to build its ramification.

Here's a JBP. Sorry, I don't have a pic from when it was a JBP bush in the big nursery can. I bought it at Plant City Bonsai, and they got it from Brussel's. So the first image I have here is after the first couple cutbacks, and it's in a bonsai pot:

Hah! We call it the same here too. Mostly they are known as "street elms".
They are indeed street and parking lot elms. I once gathered a bunch of seeds from a parking lot, and grew a bunch of elms for our club members to practice forest plantings.

Thanks @sawgrass to soiling this thread by negativity. Was just enjoying going down memory lane seeing progression photos...then seen your post and had the feeling one gets when they come up against a car crash.
There is a button at the bottom of the box you use to type and post with.
It allows you to Upload a File with.
It is located to the right of the Post Reply button.

I will show you how it works...

Green Island Ficus that started off pretty much as the following image shows... where it sat really, without a direction for quite a few years.
before.jpg

Until about 4 years ago, I decided to flip it up right, and begin to work it in its current direction.
Following picture is from start of this year. No train wreck at all! In fact starting to actually take on a positive direction, in my opinion. And an attitude to match. Much better than the Same old-same old direction that is often found.
