First nudie of the year.

I noticed I wrote some plans to cut a stub, make a layer. I didn't do any of that and I am so happy! Nothing like realizing you found the patience.

A little upset I put the paper around the inside of the basket. They grew through some, but next year window screen lining.

20151024_100922.jpg 20151024_100951.jpg

Notes for next year.
Surely make the layer. This year....in searching or the right time....it never really came. Too cold. Then too hot. Leaves hardened late. Just another year in the Chi.

Slip basket for window screen liner. Maybe a little root cutting. I'm trying not to cut anything but the layer off the top.

Push Push Push.

Sorce,

Stump removal so the extra growth will heal it ?
Removal of extra base shoots and channel energy into one long shoot ?
Image drawn or other of finished effort ?

Pretty sweet, loved the collection history/story / saga.
More power to you.
Will be watching.
Good Day

I was gonna cut the stump off the top. But patience hit me and I remembered Smoke recommending against cutting in summer.

The base shoots I am trying to make a clump when the top comes off. Its gonna be a poinkish endeavor. I think. Lotta carving out, pulling together, and mending. To eliminate the huge hole in the middle from top cutting.

Than there is the sweetly tapered bend under the soil. I'll probably treat it like a root cutting a couple years down the s dimension of time.

A quick sketch. 20151024_120511.jpg

Thanks Anthony!

Sorce,

have you done a projected image of what you want this tree to grow into ?

How thick the trunk?

How many branches and where ?

Will your curves survive the thickening or become straight ? [ make a plastercene effort to work it out ]

How tall, graceful 1" trunk to 6 ' height or stout 1" trunk to 5" height?

Branch extensions ?

Good Day

Anthony

Did you see my sketch a couple up?
I can't do much better!

I posted a Berwyn, Il elm somewhere, that is my inspiration for the first 2.
Very vase, very open grown elm.

The last one is going to have a more interesting off-real form. If It is usable when it comes out of the soil!

My head is a large space and I keep most of my projected images there.

I tend to work elms freestyle. As it comes.

Proportion is so important to me that I can only say for now, they should look right.
I believe the first one will have a 2-3inch trunk then sub trunks. Shooting for smallish!

I lied, I can sketch a bit better, and being that the excersize is SO Helpful to even stick people drawers, I will put my hand to paper again!

Thanks for Pushing me!

Post a photo when you finally cut off that stump end at the top. I'd like to learn more about that aspect of the process....seeing what others do. How close you get to the collar and such. How carve out slightly.

I'm still getting that figured myself.
Finally getting growth enough to even consider closing wounds!

Will do though!

Hokkaido make it?

No...that was "the aquisition" part 1!

That's part of why I was asking you about that Michigan cupweed junkwort:confused: stuff.
It had a lot.

Short these few spruce....and the mugo...
With my habits....
Nursery soil is a death sentence.

Next few are going to get repotted right away...but with all the local stuff I have to collect, and the airlayers I want to make next year....I'm not even going to buy a lot of nursery stuff anymore.

Cept fer -$5 wiring practice...
Or an amazing mugo.

I'll let you know when they're on the way.
A couple weeks I'm thinking.
Got to send one to Eric Group too. I still owe him a corkbark. Which I think these are. They are root cuttings from cuttings I took a couple years ago. The voles ate them down to the ground but the roots were still viable.
They are kind of crazy looking. Growing out in multi stem trees because I just let them go to get healthy.
