this is an azalea that is probably 10 inches tall to the very tip top of the leader. desired hieght will be around 8 inches. this is the first tree I ever collected.. i chopped it down to nothing and it has somehow survived and I've managed to create something from it. some of the trunk did die though, which is why there is an (ugly) shari on it. I've tried pruning all the branches, so tha they fork into two. I've created some pads and used a lot of clip and grow. the leader is obviously taking forever to thicken since these trees are very basally domimant. what are your thoughts and what should I do about the shari/deadwood? I've always heard that it doesnt last long or look good on azaleas. I think it could look good but if it's just going to rot, what's my best approach? drill holes in it? carve it even further down? what kind of pot do you see for this tree in the future and what do you think of the work so far? thanks! ----bEn

Maybe airlayer it above the shari, and grow it in the ground for a few years? Or glue the bark back on.
