Gail C,

I only answered your question, "What do you think about it?" I thought you were asking for advice/opinions? I was only offering mine, not attacking you or anyone else.
I felt no attack from your other post and I apologize if you felt I was attacking you.
I only asked if you've ever had one because she was asking for experience. I don't appreciate when people give advice on trees they have little/no experience with, they are really only repeating what they have read/heard from others. I have obviously changed the coarse growth habit of my cottonwood as I have provided two examples of two different trees, that are very different because of my care. My cotton woods if left to their own habit would be 80-100 foot tall monsters just like the black cottonwood.

I'm not trying to attack you at all, so please don't feel that way.

Happy bonsai
Aaron

IMG_1586.JPG IMG_1580.JPG IMG_1583.JPG Here on the Canadian prairies, cottonwoods, balsam poplars and trembling aspen are the only large native deciduous trees that really thrive. It's good to hear that others have had success with this genus. Good native species for bonsai here are mostly conifers and woody shrubs. Above are some balsam poplars I found growing stunted on a ridge.
