Thanks, Sorce! I like that idea. I'm about to go make all of these changes, I'll post a pic when I do.

I wonder if you couldn't eventually chop it down to that red branch.

I've wondered about an eventual chop, all the great shohin olives I've seen are a bit squattier. But yeah, I want to enjoy it like this for a while longer.

Finished up the first phase.

Also, when I said I have knob cutters, I forgot this happened recently...

I tried to bite off more than it could chew.. I'll replace them soon. Probably with the same ones. I really like the people at AB.
No kidding you tryed something a bit big, I normally use a saw for big branches THEN clean them up with knob cutters lol

Yeah haha, I didn't have all my tools with me. I was trying something new. Styling a wild pear tree in our woods to set it up for a future air layer.

I got bored so I made a few virts to help me in my pot decision. I secretly have a favorite, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I like the last pot. It really compliments and balances the textures/colors of the tree. And it is very olive-like. The first two are distracting, and the third is a bad color conflict.

I'm a fan of the second one myself, more rugged texture to fit the tree.

Yellow all the way

The yellow is my current favorite. I picked that one up from Sara herself at the Artisan's Cup!

This is my second choice. In a somewhat related acquisition, I got this one from the Mirai store, ha.

I would not think a tool should break like that. You should send them this picture they may replace them for you. Nice clean up.

I agree with @JudyB . This is not how concave cutters break. They break on the blade, the cutting tip, not on hte base on the blade. This looks more like a weakness in the metal.

I sent the photo to AB, so we'll see! I'll update when I find something out.

I really like the tree, Grant. Your response to the feedback has really taken this tree to the next step. But I really came here to say was... Nice job on those pot virts! If nothing else you've got great photoshop skills ;)

Thanks! I do enjoy messing around on Photoshop. I need to experiment with branch and foliage virts sometime.

Who's the potter of the second pot? Good choice for the tree and I want one :)

Thanks! Are you referring to the yellowish one? That's a Sara Rayner. The heavily textured brown one is also a Sara Rayner. The greenish one is Tomas Gramming, and the smooth unglazed one is Chinese.

The yellowish one. It works very well with your tree in my opinion. I'm going to have to keep an eye out for one like it. The brown one seems too dark and the Gramming pot is just okay.

#2 all the way. It needs to grow into it, but then it'll be perfect. Mine is in a tan/yellow sort of pot, seems to fit the origin and character of the tree.

Yes indeed! My wife studied in Greece for a semester, so she has been a proponent of the olive bonsai. She was stoked when I got this one. I feel like the yellow pot almost has a "Mediterranean" feel that she will surely approve of ;)
