Hi all, I dug this Oak(quercus rober) up from the allotment earlier, it had spent a year in the ground after being bought from a garden centre.

It went in the ground like this

in its new pot

I used a scalpel to cut away dead bark, preparing to hollow the top

i hollowed out into the top of the dead stump, mindful of depth as dont want to restrict too much of the sap flow on the empty side of the trunk

Bummer, this is something i've wanted to do, but man are they sensitive about their roots. Damned shame.

i dont think theyre very sensitive at all. i just hacked the roots back too hard, i should of left it in the ground or put it in a bigger pot. this can happen to any tree. ive had better results with my other two oaks.
