I think we all have some problems finding the right combo's. The reason I ask about the slab under the accent pot is that a stone pot on a stone slab is mostly considered as not done. A piece of old wood would not be bad, it's a woodland tree. It would complete the story more. But it's all about taste.

I think this particular stone looks so much like a piece of wood it is passable. I'll have to work on accent pairings more in the near future.

I got good growth on this tree last year. Enough that I had to do quite a bit of pruning after the repot. I am happy with the progress, the small trunk has the right parts, now it's just a matter of time to extend the twigs into branches, and continue the upward and outward sweep. Once it gets a bit warmer, I'll minimize that elbow on the right side of that branch/trunk. This tree is so nice. I just love hornbeams.

Excellent tree! Do you plan to place it in the shallow pot in the future?

That's nice, I feel like I miss some of the upward motion, but a bit of that might be good. I def. like the upper branch coming down. Some of what you see is back moving branches, but 2d won't tell...
Thanks Maarten.

Good one Judy! I'm kind of fond of them myself. I've got 4, all styled differently..........but they all have that nice wild appearance .....bumpy trunks, an odd angle hear and there, kind of a non conformist attitude.

Also I really like the pot color and the way the tree sits in the pot. Great job!

Continue forward as you are, looks great!! Maybe assess areas that look too dense in full leaf and trim heavy areas accordingly for winter-viewing? Very nice pot.

Obligatory "great tree" verbiage....:D:D:D:D:D Out here on the ranch, that's a centerpiece for the picnic table...and @LanceMac10 don't appreciate some sub-standard centerpiece for the "summer lodge", no sir!!!!:p:D:D:D:D:Do_O

Woooot now that is nice!
How is the apex of the most left trunk sitting in relation to the branches above it? Is is right underneath or is it the depth that is not showing?

I took the liberty to make a quick virt, hope you don't mind.

Took your advice, here are the results. I like it, thanks A LOT! The one branch that is still in that space is a back branch. 2 photos slightly differing angles.

This one was also just defoliated, a bit of pruning and wiring. Coming along...
I wired the lower right trunk after the first 3 shots as I could see the confusing whirl that was happening. Still lots of work to do on that, but I have to be patient and let it develop.

Any fall color pics? Progressed beautifully since first images.
