I was able to do a trade with a gentleman in my club and brought this one home.IMG_20170215_170107227_HDR.jpgIt was a demo tree styled last fall. I love the base but to pull it off I'm going to have to repot down the road and loose alot of it. IMG_20170215_170403807.jpgIm thinking about pulling the wire let it recover this year and start a different path next year.IMG_20170215_170150609_HDR.jpg IMG_20170215_170131020.jpgor am I just not seeing the tree inside the tree?

What? You don't want a windswept? It's got a good start as a windswept. Those two Jin's going the wrong way need to go... but other than that, it's pretty sweet!

(And this from a guy who doesn't really care for windswepts!). Lol!!!

Looks like someone did all the hard stuff and laid out a decent plan... if you wanted to a different direction with this tree I think it would have needed to be done prior to this styling. At this point you have a windswept... or a decent little semi specs add with a few minor tweaks... trying to change course and go somewhere dramatically different would be a major pain, and a stress to the tree also I imagine.

It was done late last year. I guess my thought slash question, would I be okay cutting wire off and let it sit and recover this year then go a different way next year? It doesn't feel right. If I tip it for the semi cascade I will lose some of that beautiful base. It's to spaghetti up top or something

great base, nmice top, Jins spoil it wrong direction and to straight. A bigger slant and you have a nice semi cascade or slant the other way, dewire, leave to rest and you have a nice informal tree.
Loads to make of this material. great start

There is a thread currently offering a bit of a tutorial regarding grafting. You might want to take a look at it.

Maybe you can trade this one to someone else? While you don't see lots of junipers with "descent" surface roots like this, they still are a tangled mess. Most likely from poor care as opposed to any special attention paid to them by the previous owner. It looks pretty weak, like the previous owner spent lots of time on sub-par deadwood work instead of growing a vigorous tree.

Who did the demo?

It was Mauro Stemberger. Our club purchased and provided it. We spent a few hours working on ones we brought in then he did this one over the course of 3 hours. I'm not sure how much it was messed w other after that. I know his pin for marketing angle and front are gone. The big Jin's got to go for sure

well Mauro is a well reputed Italian pro bonsai artist , I have seen some exceptional semi cascade trees designed by him . that might be the way he planned the tree

The guy won it at our November meeting. He pretty much just had it in his garage for the winter
