IMG_1449.JPG IMG_1448.JPG Is it just me or does anyone else find a comfort when at your bonsai table ?
Sometimes while working on my trees I tend to think about my past and future and where things are going in my life .
I know my little trees can't talk but they save me a lot of money in therapist bills .
Lol
Or if I have had a rough day and I'm tired, I will retreat to the table and before I know it I have forgotten about everything that has troubled me throughout the day .
My little trees do more for me than my family even knows.
My wife calls it "playing with my plants "
But it really is way more than I can describe in words .
Thanks Little guys.

I feel the same way. Bonsai - growing anything, gives you a reason to get up in the morning. So many of today's generation do not have that and it's a good way to an early grave. You can't get true satisfaction unless you ''make'' something. Video screens just won't cut it.

Funny you posted this b/c man did I have a rough f'in day today! Just downright depressive. It is (the table) my escape from the craziness of life. There is a certain peaceful clarity I have when sitting and working. 2 things that exist nowhere else in my life right now! Thanks for the post.

I'm currently dealing with an undiagnosed medical issues. Dealing with my trees IS the thing keeping me sane at the moment. I have to look after them even when I feel awful.

Viewing...
Pondering...
Pruning...
Cleaning...

Those things are relaxing.

But I realized the other day..

When inspiration strikes..
Or when things are wiring right into place....
Or when digging new stuff...

I be excited as 4 Murther Curn Furkers!

But trees provide an off switch only the children can turn back on.

Only the children are more interesting than the trees.

Anytime someone finds out I'm into bonsai, they always assume the main goal is some sort of "zen" relaxation thing, haha. That's the first thing they ask about. "Oh cool! Is it super relaxing?" And I usually say, "Not really, it's pretty frustrating," just to see their reaction. Lol. I can always see the confused look like "Well then why the heck do you do it?" But in all seriousness, my bonsai table is one of my favorite getaways.

One thing I get out of bonsai is delayed gratification. Seems silly but it is true. Our world is driven by immediacy. Just the other day I ordered a water timmer on Amazon and it was delivered to my doorstep before I got home from work. Which is great, don't get me wrong, but when I think about that I realized that has become an expectation. We expect anything and everything to be delivered or available almost immediately! I have found bonsai is not like that and for that I am grateful to my little trees as well.

I do it for a lot of reasons. I started this hobby to learn patience and I am. It helps me forget everything else in the world. It let's me be alone. It affords my mind to wander, particularly when I am doing a tedious task with a tree, which is a special treat in my line of work, at least for me. It also lets me create something that is at a different end of the spectrum from my work.

Just made the family a big breakfast .
While my two little girls ran to the living room with their pancakes and cartoons I made my plate & retreated to my bonsai table to enjoy the morning air and a nice cup of coffee
