My ginkgo. It's been in the ground a few years since its time in a nursery container about 20 years. Been chopped & sealed, but the wound rtoted anyways. Doesn't matter, I'll take that.

Just left to grow and get clipped. I'm growing out a second section, but will clip back little branches.

@Stickroot do you mix and spray on the deadwood? I'll be ordering lime sulfur for use, so do you think I should still apply this?

@Jeremy I'll keep it in the ground for a long while. Want the next section to really thicken, then chop it when the size looks right, and carve into it.

It sprouted leaves earlier, and lately been extending branches. I lost a couple of branches, probably related to repotting this spring. Chopped the top off then. Now just growing to be strong all this year.

Great base on that. The wood is really spongy, are you treating it with PC Petrifier or something?
Don't Ginko heal wounds really slowly/ practically not at all?

I had a big one for years... killed it during a move about 5 years ago, didn't get enough water at the new place I think... but the lady who sold it to me said they will not heal wounds well.

Choice!!! I like how this can be styled a little different than what you see with most Ginkgo, in a "flame" shape, (I like those as well). I like the opportunity to show a different interpretation of the material.

Choice!!!! means "wicked awesome"...;):D:D:D:D:D

They can be healed alright it seems. Slowly, but surely. I'll share a photo when I get to it of one from a Dallas Bonsai show last month.

It's spongy. I've used PC Petrifier and Lime Sulfur. I have a feeling it's going to rot all the way through to the ground. Could I be using them too diluted? Either way, I wouldn't mind a complete hollow, Brian.

They say when one dies off...it stores evergy around its base. I'm thinking that is what happened here.

I like your different approach to styling it, but...nothing is ever lost with this species. With its ability to overcome even death to its tree.
