Difficult tree. The trunk comes out of the ground moving left. But the apex moves to the right.

Under "Classical" styling conventions, the apex should move in the same direction as the lower trunk.
Yes, the real problems are that the right branches need to be wired to permanently improve their placement, and the apex needs to be distinguished between what should be upper branching on the right side. @mcpesq817 asked if there were comments about the placement of the tree in the pot. Not from Dan Robinson. But Kathy had quite a bit to say about it in our workshop last spring. Too far to the left and too far back in the pot. Which is why the right side is less developed and less vigorous than the left. Even though the tree was repotted this past spring, I intend to do it again in spring '17 to correct this error.

Did you mean to say that it was potted too far to the right? You said left.

I think I would like it better shorter.

It's a nice tree. Continue to work with it and it will really be special!

Duh, correct, meant to the right! It probably does need to be shorter.

Hope to meet you someday.
Study group this Saturday.

Roy, you're invited back too. The pine I got from you is growing really well this year. (Welcome to bN by the way)

If I didn't have a sick dog who requires medication (x4) three times a day right now, I'd be there!

Welcome, Roy. I've admired your pottery ever since I got wind of it. Glad you've joined this forum! I live in Lexington SC. There are several folks in the Midlands doing bonsai. Some (not me) on a very high level. Are there many bonsai nuts upstate?

Hey! Thanks =) There's a few at Upstate Study Group.
