This Linden's name is Fugly Cordada
Warning: Do not look directly at the pics. Turn your head away from the monitor and glance at it out of the corner of your eye. It's Medusa ugly, I can't be held responsible for what happens if you look directly at it.
At first I really stared at your background. It's captured my heart at first glance!
Secondly I looked at the Linden and I will agree with Max/barrosinc, it is not that ugly :)

I've got plenty of ugly too. Most of them seem to have possibilities to become less ugly or cool ugly or somehow salvageable. Except this one, this is the worst of them all...looks like a bad graft it's actually just a past infection/disease scar of some kind. image.jpgimage.jpg

Cotoneaster. No words needed.IMG_20170117_134937157.jpg
And this boxwood I keep trying to kill. Just can't find the tree in those pinwheel branches. Has been chopped and repotted in a tiny pot, No new pics as I don't want to break the camera.IMG_20160612_120409802.jpg

Once again proving beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I still get the willies when I look directly at it LOL

I like the look of the napa, bark, lava mix!
There's other stuff in there too.
I like to recycle the soil I have.
There is some turkey grit in there too.
I don't use it anymore but if it's in the old soil I use it. I believe it just adds weight and doesn't contribute anything.
There is also perlite in the top picture.
Miracle grow perlite . So they get access to fertiliser all of the time. Something I'm trying out this year. From the way the tree looks it seems to be working well.
The trees are all in much better health since I don't use pure D.E. anymore.

I was about to write a cautionary post of the travails of the volunteer elms and the tourniquet method, but this seems like thread to participate. I might try a airlayer just below the first branch on the one to the left. What do I have to lose other than a volunteer elm and a very small part of 10 years.image.jpeg

I think I may have found a serious contenda. This spirea use daily to be fairly attractive as a sort of sumo. But last fall in a depressed mood I started picking mindlessly at all the dead wood at the base and before I knew what I was doing, as they say in France - voila, Ugly.
