It could have been pruned improperly last fall, or this spring. But you're correct, something is wrong with timing. Who knows, maybe that's why the original owner sold it. It really takes a full, attentive year to understand how jbp respond. To the OP, I would definitely NOT candle cut this one this year. Why is the needles so short for this time of the year? These are Spring growth so I would think they should be a bit longer consider this one came from CA. Other than that it looks healthy.
Yep. The spring candles have already been cut, and the young growth is summer candles. Here are some more photos of the tree. Thank you so much for all the help and suggestions, I really appreciate it
I understand. It's called the "fall JBP technique". It forces backbudding. If you get backbuds to pop, you can't decandle them for st least one year. Sometimes two. Until they get strong.@Adair M just to be clear, tree allowed to grow unchecked until fall tickles it's dormancy. I'm not cutting twice.
You use a laser scalpel....I'm still grappling with the wheel.....
Most of the brown tips I saw were needles that had been cut. One year old needles will start to fade and yellow starting about this time of year.I am noticing that some of the new growth have brown tips. What is the cause of this and how can I treat it?
