Here's our hurricane shutters, the wind isn't my biggest concern it is the lack of power required for BonsaiNut :p

and flooding...check out how low some of my windows are

View attachment 159786

Close windows and you can seal it with silicone to like 1/3 height of the window
Afterwards you can easily remove it

Or open window place rubberbands in (like bycicle tubes) and close the window might work also i have sealed off the window of a basement that way for a customer when there were some drainage issues after his house was build all the water in the ground flood to his basement since that was the lowest part of the street lol

When Sandy hit I didn't have power for a week. Thankfully it wasn't really cold. Still cool enough that I had to keep the fireplace going as much as possible. Having young kids makes it a bit scarier as you have much more to think about.

Irma appears to be much much worse than anything I experienced. Hoping you and yours remain safe.

Thank you.

Thanks for the ideas man!

I was thinking to silicone the backdoor. You think it'll hold? I mean just the border of the door where it meets the frame when closed.

I think it will hold if aplied properly

Clean the surface with brake cleaner or something similar to make sure its clean and degreased also make sure its dry before putting the silicone on

People build aquariums from glass and silicone so its worth a try

lets just hope it doesnt rain rocks from a stonecloud .... hmm sorry for the bad joke

Edit you could aply inside and outside for extra protection

If you stay, stay safe StoneCloud! I think we're leaving out too.
My poor trees are going to suffer! :(
I've brought them in and will have them in trays of water, but that will only last so long. My fear isn't getting out, it's getting back down here.

I'm from Sarasota and my brother is still there. The predictions seem to be showing it headed east of there for now. But I grew up there and know that computer predictions may not be right. So I'm worried about family and friends there. Sarasota has not had a direct hit since the 1930's, but I've ridden out plenty of edges and tropical storms. If this monster gets close to there, a lot of big trees will get blown over because they have had a long time to grow without much damage. Flooding is a huge problem too. I wouldn't wish this on an enemy, it is a bigass, powerful storm. It should slow down a bit before hitting Fl, and I sure hope so. Its horrible what happened in the Carribean islands, some have total devistation. So y'all that are thinking of waiting til last minute, think again please! A friend in Sarasota said I75 was sitting almost still. Getting out will be slow. And ugly. Remember that before thinking later is ok. You don't want to be in your car stuck on the road during this storm. If not, batten down the hatches. And please remember that the fallowing days after the storm are often just as deadly or worse than during. As people venture out, all kinds of things happen. So seriously get all your supplies locked down and gun loaded to defend what's left, if worth defending. But what a horrible thought! Be safe, Fl Nuts! Be prepared! And please be careful!And hopefuly lucky....

They will be fine without light for a week.
I would only put enough water to have the level halfway up the pot. Don't completely submerge them.
Wow..."half way up" most of even my bonsai pots are deeper pots though. Or bulb pots...seems like a lot of water. No worry of to much?

@Lobaeux

If I decide to stay you can drop your trees of with me if you would like. Plan is that I will keep in them inside only duration of storm and bring out right after.

I'm in Davie, so not far at all.

@eferguson1974

You are right. That is my hesitation at this point tbh. Because 2 days ago they 80,000 evacuated out of the Keys............I know 75 and 95 are definitely parking lots right now.

this is nuts

Thousands of people have lost their home.

This is what scientists predicted: more violent climate disasters beacause of man-made climate change. (FAKE NEWS!)

Or if it weren't man-made, maybe man could at least think of a way to make sure it doesn't get worse. (LIBERAL COMMIE!)

Like, I don't know, pray?... :rolleyes:

Thanks Stone Cloud! I may take you up in that.
Right now, I-95 is a parking lot going north. Fender benders, and I'm betting its people on their phones not paying attention. It's 12 hours to Pensacola taking back roads, which is what I'd do.

Yea FL has a bad case of ppl being on the phone and driving it's quite remarkable. I was thinking back roads also and not even to try the interstates if we do leave.

One was not enough and now there's another one (Jose) following the track of IRma. Looks like a nightmare from this corner of Earth.

You can send me all your bonsai. They'll be safe here ;)

Just joking. I wish you all the best and be safe.
