Took my little Ilex crenata to the members exhibition at New England Bonsai Gardens this weekend.

Here is how it looked (slightly bad angle on the picture):

Not too bad for a what was a $24.99 landscape shrub 3 years ago.

In fact, if you guys don't mind if I brag a little, I'd like to add that it won the category they put it into!!! I'm like holy $#%t!

Seriously floored.....seriously.

Congrats on the award! What was the category?

I knew someone was going to ask that.

It was a bit of an oddball I guess and they didn't know exactly which category to put it in. It didnt fit with either the conifers or the deciduous obviously.

I was told that since they are grown mostly in the south, they put it in the tropical category, which I thought was odd, but who am I to argue?

I am just curious and wondering....because I don't know. Does a tree potted in a bonsai pot like this live in that particular pot year round? Or...just for show time....and it grows in a box other days of the year.

Nice combination of tree design, pot and color. Mighty fine!

I think the trees from last year's contest are all going to be great.
Sandy did an excellent job and is already reaping the benefits.
And it's only going to get better!

I absolutely love your display setup! I am definitely uneducated in the aspects of displays/formality, but this is pure beauty to this northern hoser. Congratulations!
