In 1996 when someone who was supposed to give a demonstration for our club show did not show up I was drafted to fill in. One of our vendors had an assortment of pines and this Mugo was in the batch. I grabbed it up for five dollars and this is what has happened since then.

The first image goes back to march of last year, the second image was taken this morning.

I realize that the new production of the tree is not full and it will take probably another two, maybe three years to fill in but I like where it is going. I have provided a closeup of both the crown and nebari of the tree neither of which showed up will in the over-all photo of the tree.

Have you thought about removing that downward branch and lowering the top left bottom branch? The straight line keeps drawing my eye

Yes and that's probably where this is going to go but for now this is about as severe as I want to get with it in one sitting. The tree is an old friend and I wish not to risk it without good reason. Sometimes a year of growth can open up doors you don't yet see.

It's difficult to get good pictures of this tree, either the interior is too dark or the exterior is washed out. It looks like I am going to have to bring out the lights.

I would maybe want to keep the branch.
It gives the tree a better balanced look to me.

Oh wow, I don't even notice giga edited that till now!

It does seem necessary.

Though I would prefer it wiggled into a position replacing the high jin...

The pot and base are simple, I like the simple jin alone.

This is a hell of a forward change regardless.

From tacky bonsai to impressive tree!

Looks nice Vance, as far as that branch......hhhhhmmmm if this is your chosen front then perhaps add a little movement and align it towards the left, if that makes any cents (as in 500 that you paid).

I worked it a little more this afternoon. I hope to find a nice Sara Reynor pot for it in the next year or two. I hope you can see the nebari clearly and the improved branch placement.

The tree is 14" tall above the container, 18" from the bench.

I've been looking at the buds on this Mugo and the one I got from you earlier this year. They're different than the buds on my only Mugo from before. The ones on this tree and the other I got from you are small and dark. The ones on my other one are more reddish and huge. Is it from the fertilizer or is it because my other one is a different cultivar.

It could be both. I don't remember the provenance of the Mugo you got from me earlier, that one could be and East Anglia Mugo, and yes it could be fertilizer or the soil it's planted in. Usually big red buds indicate Tyrolean, but none of this can be sure considering the variability of these trees. The Mugo you go from me this year is definitely Pumilo as is this one.

Don't look to hard!

I AM going to make you a pot or 2 ....

I love this tree and would be honored to make one for it!

But you jumble it around and throw me a couple pics and dimensions for anything....I got you!

Looking better!
