@M.Frary ,

Mike,

here is that elm I told you about. Thick trunk in a 1/3, 55 Gal. Black barrel.
Now starting training.

Also two others as a warning ----------- both out of Canada, but neither
will grow a thick trunk, even with 6 foot + branch extensions.
So make sure you got a trunk thickener type.
There were some 8 types plus these 2 back in the 90's.
Good Day
Anthony

Alright, I got 2, both Chinese elms...though the bigger one is maybe a weird seed grown variety, or something, it has some interesting bark.
Been fighting black spot on the little one for 2 years, I think it is finally over now, seems to be growing strong.

Yes @Giga,

and the southern Chinese elm grows well down here.
Now if we can just learn to keep the branchlets from thickening so quickly.
Ruins the illusion.
Good Day

Now I do wish the elms down here had bark like @just.wing.it 's tree.
Good Day

I really like the bark too!
I might get another one next spring, they had a few dozen when I was getting this one.

Actually I should work on rooting cuttings skills next year instead....that's a better idea....

Here for Alexandra, Sorce and Gogeerah [ love your axe ]
Good Day

Alexandra, the idea is to get the unexplored tree/shrub to a lush/healthy / full state first.
Then take away the leaves / branches to get the shape you want.
