You are making statements based on assumptions I did not make. I do however agree with you for the most part.

The Dept. of Education is not constitutional.

Another cultural difference : here public schools are not supposed to feed kids with bullshit, sorry, religious propaganda from an early age.

Here, it's constitutional to separate religion (at home) and Education, and thus to make a difference between beliefs, superstitions (at home) and Science and Knowledge.

Here, there's a limit to free speech: hate speech has nothing to do in the Republic.

Discriminating people because of their culture, their religion, their race, gender, sexual orientation or their physical appearance is against our common values and are offences in regard to the law.

I suppose it's more or less the same over there where you are.

At least when you have money.

But a country that obliges its children to repeat each day, week after week, year after year "so help me god" is not a secular country, there is no freedom of thought there, it's just like islamic states, brainwashing kids from an early age.

The earth is not flat. Santa Claus is homeless. One doesn't have to believe in fairy tales to do good.

And a society that doesn't care for the education of all his children is a fascist society (it usually goes with a strong religious stance, like in Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Poland, etc.)

I made the mistake of reading this thread without logging in. Should have known better.

@just.wing.it Your words clearly reflect the blindfold you are wearing. If half of what you said were true, we would not have half the things going on in this country that are going on.
There would be no white lives matter, black lives matter, homosexuals wouldnt be afraid to admit they are homosexual., and people would be trying to keep them from sharing the same benefits that a heterosexual couple have with regard to domestic arrangements, and other things. Law abiding Americans of certain races or religions wouldnt have to fear for their lives.

My statement was not meant to be right or left. There are people on both sides that believe in the sentiment of what I said. It also has nothing to do with what foreign aid the U.S. sends to other countries. It has nothing to do with Cuba. It has to do with the attitudes of SOME people in the country who happen to be very vocal right now.
My statement applies to everyone, not just left or right. Everyone. Yea we are supposed to be "all Americans" but if you seriously think everyone is "treated equal" then you truly are blind because that is very very far from the truth. I am not the one that needs to open my eyes.

Another thing. DONT EVER TELL ME to shut my mouth. I will see you in hell before that EVER happens.
Do us both a favor. Exercise some self control and dont bother responding to me in the future. I will no longer ever read your diarrhea.
Your words are poison and you are NOT worth my time and blood pressure to respond to.
For my own health and peace, you will FOREVER be on my ingore list. There is nothing you can say that will ever change that so just dont bother.

@Vance Wood Ive met you and talked to you and your lovely wife in Rochester.
I agree with some of the things you have stated in these train wreck threads, because sometimes your responses reflect a knowledge of the history.
I find it amazing that such a kind and gentle soul such as yourself would actually agree with the poison wing it flings around.

This is why I have come to HATE these threads. These threads serve to cause nothing but arguments and they never solve anything. I wish we had an option to block threads.
Sadly for myself, it has also caused me to truly hate people like Wing It.

Oh I meant it. I have a visceral and physiological reaction whenever I read read a certain person's words, particularly when he tries to tell me to "shut my mouth".
Nothing infuriates me more. And it isnt only in the political threads, its now also the bonsai threads, just to a lesser degree.
I am not proud of it but that is the reaction I have.

@Bolero, seems that the only reason you "need" me in these threads is give you something to mock and someone to laugh at. You dont give a rats ass about my opinion or my point of view. You are the second one to label me as "left". I consider myself to be moderate. I lean left on SOME issues and I lean right on SOME others. I acknowledge that I to tend to lean toward the left ideology on most things these days but I am more toward the middle, not the extreme. My husband is a card carrying Republican, seriously. We dont see eye to eye on everything, but we do agree on many things.

When it comes to our environment, that is near and dear to my heart and I am definitely the most left on that. I admire what Teddy Roosevelt did for the environmental movement in this country. He was republican if you dont remember.
However I am more a proponent of conservation and wise management than in preservation in many cases, but it really depends on the issue.

I believe in our constitutional right to bear arms but I do believe that some types of devices should not be allowed.

On the issue of abortion. I have alot of internal conflict over this issue. I believe that abortion is murder and I dont agree with the decision to terminate a pregnancy.
However I do also believe that a woman should have the right to choose what to do with her own body up to a certain point. Where that cutoff is, I cant decide. Mid-late term abortions should be absolutely illegal except in dire circumstances where the mother's life is in absolute danger.

I believe that we need to control our borders and to control who comes into the country. Putting aside the fact that people have entered illegally, I dont believe it is right to split families apart to deport otherwise hard working and law abiding parents of children born here and make those children wards of the state. I also dont believe we should deport people from the only country and home they have ever known and dump them in a country that they have never known and have no idea how to survive there. I also believe that should not take a decade for a law abiding, tax paying immigrant to gain legal status.

I didnt like either candidate in the last election, and Ill add that I absolutely didnt like Bernie Sanders because I dont think we could pay for the things he wanted to do. We cant give everything away for free to everyone but there are some things we can do to help lift people up out of their circumstances and give them a chance getting somewhere in life. I dont think we can afford to give everyone a free college education but we can make scholarships and low interest loans available so that deserving students can go to college. I am a firm believer in work fare, not well fare whenever possible.

I worked very hard to get where I am today. My parents were divorced when I was 9 years old and my mother raised me. I worked my ass off in school to get good grades and graduated 6th in my class. The only way we could afford for me to go to college is with scholarships and loans so I had to work hard. I also worked my ass off in college. After I graduated, I worked full time and went to graduate school part time. I took a civil service test and scored second on that list out of over 1000 people.
Contrary to what some have said, I am not uneducated and I am not stupid.

Another thing I detest is these labels "Left", "Right", "Democrat", "Republican", "us", "them".

For the record, I am registered independent because I dont believe in party line bullshit. We cant get anything done in this country because both sides cant come to some kind of compromise. This country was built by people that came together and worked out their differences for the betterment of the whole. That is largely gone on both sides. The middle ground is getting smaller and smaller with each passing year. The people that worked to reach across the line to do what is right for this country instead of the party have largely given up because it getting harder if not impossible to do.

As long as we continue to put labels on each other and see only that difference instead of acknowledging that we are all human beings and all equal citizens of the United States regardless of our skin color, religion, ethnic background, we will never get anything done and this country will continue to spiral down the toilet.

Man I thought @rockm cleared it up pretty quick on page 1. I don't see what there is to argue about. As folks on this thread have said, not all people are equal. The NFL players are far more valued than anyone arguing here. They can protest in uniform, because they hold way more value than any of us commoners. The owners are rich, and pay men millions of dollars to play a game. If you are getting upset at the power these players have, maybe they would just call you poor crybaby snowflakes.

*edited to focus the word "moderate"*

Why?
Why do you dislike the middle ground?

Why does it have to be all one way or the other? The people in office that only see it this way are preventing us from moving forward because we can get nothing done.

Why can't someone agree with one side on some issues and agree with the other side on other issues or some combination of both ideologies? Humans are complex beings, capable of complex thought. To deny our ability for that does us all a disservice.

As I stated above, this country was founded by people that came together because of our similarities and they worked out our differences for the betterment of the nation as a whole. The middle ground is where things got done for most of our history. It is only recently that people have tried to govern by drowning out the other side out rather than finding the middle. It's not working.

Most of us grow up in a world that is metaphorically black and white. I see many recent college grads that are very ideolistic and very much see the world as black and white. However, most of us, as we grow older, realize the world is not black and white, but many shades of grey.

No I am not a doctorate. I finished my masters degree and decided that I was sick of school and taking all my free time outside work to get it done For what I wanted, I did not need the PhD. I also decided that I wanted to enjoy my free time and life at that point.

You sound very reasonable and I gotta say I'm essentially on the same page with every issue you've mentioned above. Some would like to label you as left wing for your defense of the environment or your willingness to restrict the ownership of certain firearms. Some might call you right wing because you don't believe that the government should be giving shit away to those who make a living milking the system/always looking for a gov't handout, or that you support the 2nd amendment. To me, you're just someone with common sense who is able to weed through the partisan BS and come to their own conclusions on the issues. Right vs left... UGH! Until the population at large pulls their collective head out of their asses and realizes that we're all being played by the powers that be, nothing will change.

What is your take on all these Asian fish and shell fish taking hold in the Great Lakes and infringing on our native fish ?

It can be interesting, and it can be frustrating. It has good days and bad days like any job.

As to your question: any time a non native and/or invasive species is introduced, whether accidental or intentional, there is the potential to have severe consequences to the local ecology.

Often, the new species out competes natives for food and since they don't have any natural predators, they can take over the ecology of an area.

In the case of the Great Lakes, the zebra mussel has no native predators, has an extreme high reproduction rate and has the capacity to outcompete local species for food because on average and/or in aggregate, the can filter out the phytoplankton much faster and more efficiently.

Asian carp, likewise have a high reproduction rate, few to no predators and a hugh growth rate so they likewise out competes natives.

Thanks for the info Sandy...Here in Michigan our DNR is trying to stay on top of the Zebra Mussel and Asian Carp infestations, I'm not sure just where they are right now but I do know they are addressing it...

On another note Lake Erie has been completely re-vitalized, restored and the Walleye fishing is remarkably outstanding...

And our Lake Sinclair is known Worldwide for its Smallmouth and Musky fishing...
