Here’s the cut that scares me, designated by yellow string. I think it’s a good call, just intimidating.

Front.

Just a quick, "you're good to go" photo drop.

Ginseng in Hydro dish.
Smells of root rot, but good.

Recent trims new growth.

Root trim cut back to basket at digout. One pasted, two low unpasted.20171109_061636.jpg

New roots elsewhere.20171109_061622.jpg

Digs.20171109_061417.jpg

I only pruned that one. Good to go.

Oh...,one more I'm trying to ship to @StoneCloud in Fl.

Out of the ground in its tiny basket, Hydro in the glass dish. T for moisture lock.

Oh and this FL bound one too....with great moss!

That's my basket material wrapped around an electrical tape container. Tiny!
It can float on top of water! Super Hydro!

Ficus Ben is beautiful! Send it to me anytime! :)

Yep. I started repotting a couple smalls this morning. I figured I could just sit on the cut for a few minutes.

Looking for my paste. It’s around here somewhere.
If not I’ll just dunk the cut in my coffee! Mmmmm.

Here’s the concrete chunk.

I got about 6 tablespoons of dirt out of it total.

I did separate roots to which I was just told is a no-no this time of year.

Trimmed back a bit and removed a few ancillary branches. I still see a couple of things to deal with but this is as far as I’m willing to go for now.

Ok ficus. Sorry you took a beating today.

Thanks man always love reading your posts!! and you're right we can get some long ass EPIC tales on here!! Got hit by a hurricane, house got damaged, stuff got wet, lost a bunch of shit and have to start over.

Didn't want to in FL again heat was too much so we made the choice to move up to NC.....

Gotta start my bonsai collection over and now I've got real seasons! woohooo Never been one to grow inside but looks like I may need to get an indoor set up going!

An easy and risk-free way to lift that heavy soil and buy yourself time is a 15 or 20% peroxide solution. It will loosen and oxygenate the soil and act as a mild fungicide and kill the moss. Doing this once every week or so will likely buy you the time you need to get through winter.

I'd guess you're probably not ready to consider this yet, but if this were mine I'd make the lowest branch (on the right in the first pic of this post) your top, and air layer off everything above that. Gets rid of a small reverse taper and enhances the taper of the remaining trunk.
