Had a few of these from a plant sale at my old job and chopped them hard past spring, they seem to take root chops and abuse pretty well. Forestiera segregata is the Latin name. Found the small dish at the thrift store and drilled a hole in it. Dish is about the size of a tuna can. DSCN6362.JPG

also, the sprout on the viewer's right I am going to eventually bend over to cover up the big cut on the back side and continue the windswept look of the tree. I do really like the roots on this one, and its buddy, privet two.

It is great to see more people using the North American native Forestiera species. There are several species native to the USA, from Florida up into the Appalachian mountains. I believe there are a couple species in western North America too. They are indeed somewhat related to the Ligustrum genus of privet, so the ''common'' name is apt. They should have sweet smelling small white flowers with time.

Nice

They bend real easy and hold the bend in just a few weeks, great plant for bonsai, should really be used more.

Today: The tiny shoot from November I decided to wrap around the trunk and see what kind of monstrosity I can come up with, I may do the same with the new shoot. DSCN6818.JPGDSCN6819.JPGAnd the tree has its own ladybug!!DSCN6820.JPG
