Just thought some may be interested in the recent adventures of Thor Holvia and Carin Jern who was recently invited to Japan to work alongside some of Tokoname best potters. Something which is quite rare and certainly too good an opportunity to pass up for them.

Anyway if you haven't seen it before I suggest all those interested to catch up on all Thors blog posts from his time there. There is definitely some great articles and info in all of the posts, a must read for anyone with a passing interest in bonsai pottery.

https://www.holvilabonsaipot.com/blog/category/Japan 2017

There is also this great article about what the future may hold and the second generation of Thors pottery.

All very exciting really, they even gave him his own Japanese stamp which will feature from now on in.

Plus here are a couple of pots that he made whilst in Japan.

All pics taken from the blog linked above.

So all in all some interesting times ahead and I'm really looking forward to this next generation of Thor pots. He is releasing the final lot of pots over the next month before the new ones will be released.
I have a few of what are going to now be the old style pots which I love, cant wait to see what the new year is going to bring.

I have been following his blog posts on his trip to Japan, and they have been very interesting. This is my first time seeing this article on his second generation of work and all I can say is wow! I had never been a big fan of his earlier work, but I always respected him as an artist. After seeing these "bear of the valley" pieces, I am very excited for his new work.

I get that, those pots pictured are so sleek and the glazes go so well with the style, I really want to see more. I quite like his work as it is but to go and be taught by some masters you would be mad not to take the advice on board. I love the name too, "Bear of the Valley". We should all have Japanese names. :D

I bought one of his skull pots a while ago. Great work! Made a post about it on my beginner blog: https://shumibonsai.wordpress.com/2017/12/10/got-me-some-new-bonsai-pots/

That is a nice one too, I have a smaller skull pot and picked up a larger one from his last skull themed edition. They are cool pieces, I'm slowly forulating an idea for the larger pot while the small one could be an accent but what I like most is they creep out the in-laws when they come visiting. Must remember to display them over the holidays.

I'd kill for one of those Japan editions though ;)
Have you seen the daily pot release? That's really cool.

Absolutely I would love one of them, I kind of hope he keeps them though. They might go for crazy prices in an auction but.

Yeah the daily release of the last of the pre Japan pots, definitely am keeping an eye on those. Maybe see if I can grab one after Christmas. I reckon there will be some good stuff in there. The two so far are nice, love the red glaze one.

I imagine that has a lot to do with it, that said I reckon someone will grab it. It does look like a great pot and is a bit larger too. People pay way more for old pots and this one got peoples attention, there could be worse things than keeping it. It must be hard to part with I imagine.
And to be fair the 2 pricey ones that are left are the only ones priced that high, the rest were priced fairly normally and the auctions were good too.

Yeah the other bidder could of bid again but didn't see the 2 minute extra rule at first, it would of been his if he did and fair play to him but I'm happy, I really want to check those feet out. I'm waiting for the shirts to come in and then get it shipped.:D
Noelanders would be cool but it's too far of a trek at this point, maybe one day I'll get there.

Lol, well got to spend Christmas money on something.

Yeah, I think Pavia are going and they are fairly local to me but I don't know them really. Besides tomorrow I have to get back to work proper, between that and being the family taxi I can't really disappear for a few days.

Cheers, going to check him out. I usually follow someone when I can. There are a few potters from Spain doing cool stuff.
