yes thuja, shimpaku and a couple others turn a rusty brown during the colder months and green back up when they start moving again

Thanks Juds! As you well know part of the game is being able to work on good material. I'll be thrilled to get it into the Nationals this year. We'll see.

Thanks Darlene! I thought it would be neat to try and get this tree into the 6th US National since it will mark ten years that it was displayed at the very first Nationals back in 2008.

It's hard to believe anyone could improve upon a tree from the great Suthin but you did it. In just my four or so years on B-Nut your level of artistry and skill has increased significantly and is evident in the many trees you've posted. I sure wish you were a member of our club. Keep up the great work Sergio!

Actually, it looks like your moving "away" from Suthin's vision. All this extra foliage seems to mute the incredible trunk. Seems smaller, less impressive and dare I say, younger? Obviously, incredible technical showing, but it somehow seems "too much bonsai"......

I second this. I really like that you brought more of the foliage to the left. For me it feels like a much more balanced and pleasing image now. Great work as always.

I agree.
But actually I think it can be just as difficult, if not more so to take a tree that is already at a certain point, and to build on it and better it. It's easy for me to see the direction in lessor trees, but making an already amazing tree into something better? Tough. And you make it your own in so doing.
