Your maple is further along than mine...but your more south as well. Stunning trees Judy! Gotta love signs of spring!!!

EDIT: @JudyB ...Paul's Scarlet!!! May I see a full photo of that tree!?! ?
I warned you that it's OOGly. Haven't figured out what to do with it yet, did some editing and a bit of carving so far.
Thought I had a pic of when I got it, but can't find it. Trust me it was even uglier before if that's possible. But these are near impossible to find and I got this cheap to learn the species. Will try to find a better one if it works here in this climate. I will be cutting this back hard as soon as it recovers from it's repot. It was in too small of a pot and very root bound with obvious branch issues...

I am going to try cuttings with heated propagator from a 5 gallon ‘Paul’s scarlet’
getting shipped this April.Going to give hormex #8 a try, that is what is recommended for Hawthorne.
Great to get an early start! Your trees look great,Judy.

I know you can make something out of it. But, trust me...I grasp all to well how rare these are to find. It's not as oogly as you lead me to believe. Though...my having a fetish for the blooms...has me seeing the gem inside. Glad you found one to work with. If you find they don't do well for our area...please let me know.

Good luck with that, it's not an easy thing to find, so let us know how it works out!
Thanks for the kind words. I guess that I've been seeing such nice trees online lately, it feels like I need to step up my game again...

Well time will tell. It seemed to do fine last year so it'll probably work here. It does have some odd growth habits, so will be interesting to see what it does now that the roots have some space.

How so? Please don't say they don't back bud well...it's my dreaded curse of the Goji. I see 5 years in those bottles extending their roots to develop neagari style...and then...if I still hate them...they will be sold. Though...honestly...I love exposed root. So that may persuade me to keep at least one if not both.

Once again, very nice trees.

Do you keep them outside in winter or do you have an unheated greenhouse?

Mine are all outside and there was a cold snap in the past weeks (snow, then over a week with temps ranging from -4°C to -9°C during the night, slightly above zero during the day. And when I left Rochefort last weekend, it was -7 at night, and... + 15 in the afternoon! (about 20F and 59F. - https://www.google.fr/search?q=cels...x-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=4xmgWtWtBabc8AfVno-oAg )

I have a Prunus x cistena that showed lots of swollen pink flower buds 12 days ago, now they're brownish. I don't bother too much, there will only be a few flowers, but it should push out leaves soon.

To my surprise, the Japanese apricot that I have in the ground still has (white) flowers, and more buds to open, whereas there will be no local apricots in most places in France. Prunus mume seems to be a tough guy...

I have a cold greenhouse that is supplemented with heat mats to keep the roots from freezing, and a small infrared heater as well. I keep the air temps in there between 30 and 40 (or try to) all winter. They do wake up earlier in there so I get more growing season. I also have many grow lights in there so I don't have to move the trees in and out. But I do move stuff if it's a nice sunny day, which is rare this time of year. The greenhouse has a real roof (not a real greenhouse...) so as not to get it overheated by sun in winter, so that's why I need lights. It's a balmy 60 in there today and 30 outside and windy and snowing! It's really a treat to go out to that house and spend time...

Your quince cascade...what shade blooms does it produce?
Do not know. Got it from Owen, and he got it from a guy that never let it bloom. I was only keeping it for Owen while it recovered from drying out as the person he had watering his stuff while he was away messed up the watering. He wasn't going to be around much so I kept it and let it recover. But then of course I acquired it, cause I fell for it...

So...it didn't bloom this year? Quince...as in Chinese variety? (Is what I am assuming since my Japanese one is quite the bloomer. Yet my Chinese quince is not offering a bloom as of yet.)
Very quirky quince! I am certain 2D photos can not offer it justice.
