If you use this garbage.
Time-released, green balls.

Mmmmm!

Lets see what happens when some balls get in the side of the pot and the sun heats them so that they all open at once!

Black Death! Yuck!

So before these over the good side open....and kill the other side!

They get knocked out with the duff.

Say No to Balls.

Kinda HBR'd it...sucks finding last years shape in the roots....another little square pot.

Those Time-released pellets killed every root in this side of the pot that grew after this was uppotted.

Please do not use these capsules....

And be sure to sweep them off your trees, and into...the lawn?
Just get it off your nursery trees, especially these black pots

Used to use them back in the day......bunch of rubbish....dont even slow release properly. I use a general chem fertiliser and dissolve 6 to 9 granules to 5 litres of water....a very low dose but it is the same as a slow release fertiliser and the trees are very happy with it so far.

To tell you the truth its probably better not to fertilise than to use these pellets.....especially with a black pot.

Good post and heads up to others @sorce

Hmmm. I've been using Osmocote for years on my trees and haven't had any problems. It looks as if you've got a whole lot of those little buggers on the one side that you're calling "black death" and way less on the side with healthy mycorrhizal-rich roots. Could it be that you just had way too much on the one side and it "burned" the roots?

I know some people claim that slow release fertilizer isn't consistent and will release way more than usual on hotter days. IDK, there may be something to this. I'm in Coastal California and our climate is relatively mild without super hot days in the summer (above 100 is very rare) and super cold days in the winter.

Many senior REBS members use Apex slow release green balls (Simplot) liberally and their trees absolutely thrive. These are folks with Artisan Cup winning trees mind you.

Parece un caso excepcional con muy poca probabilidad de repetición.

Long live the osmocote !!👑

You confuse me now.. Did you not say:

Yeah, it's only speculation though.

Something about folks "standing in the middle of the street trying not to get hit by a car" that doesn't make sense to me.

Use the sidewalk.

Or wondering if it was the car, or the bumper, that killed the dude in the street.

I'm all for discussion, but sometimes pictures speak a thousand words.

I included the pictures, right there for the eyes to see, and we still "DK, there may be something to it".

Maybe? MAY be?

It's like hiring a babysitter from the local list of sex offenders because they "won't do it to every kid".

Just baffling to me. Discuss?

I don't believe in generally fertilizing, I fertilize at specific times to get specific growth. I do not fertilize trees in non-growing seasons from September through March. I specifically want small foliage so I don't fertilize until the the first flush is finished expanding, usually in June. I continue in July & August to encourage second flush bud expansion and build buds for next year. For flowering trees, I begin ferts as the flower buds swell in spring for bigger flowers. My soil has a high proportion of pine bark and is slightly N poor because of that. My goal is to control when the N level is sufficient for higher growth is available. Liquid ferts are my only source of N, from 10-52-10 for flowers, 20-20-20 for general use, or 50-10-10 for acid lovers.

@Tieball just sent someone else to search for it...

Yeah Alaska 511.

It attracts wasps that eat caterpillars.
Attracts flies that attract spiders that eat bugs that eat trees.

When you are on the "tree hugging" side of this tree hugging, the fish makes you feel good.

It Doesn't damage moss, so it won't damage Mycorrhiza either.

It works well enough for me to never ever ever pack a mule again!

Sorce !! My man !! I tried this fish emulsion, but I didn’t get to see any significant grow as one would expect. What’s your ratio mix ? As shown on label ? Share the secret !!
