Last night I read that the Crepe Myrtles need protection when temps get below 41 degrees f.
How true is that???
If it IS true and I knew it going in, I would have protected them better.
I simply packed them close together with other trees, on the North side of the Bonsai shed out of the Sun & wind.

Possibly my bad, as I should've done more research first. But then again, they WERE selling them here.

Temps get well below 41 here.
I sure hope they didn't go "toes-up" on me!

Sorry, didn't mean to hi-jack the thread. I just figured it fits-in with the thread's subject
Cold hardiness is very cultivar specific. Some don't like freezing weather, and others are cold hardy to usda zone 6 as landscape trees... according to Dirr, they're planted as far north as Cape Cod. Like Rockm mentioned, many easily survive very cold winter weather without issue, but need descent protection in a pot.

Was just about to write what @Dav4 said. In containers they lose at least one zone, and the above ground portions can die back but the root system may survive. Hopefully from wherever you bought it, they were selling cold hardy varieties that can survive your specific temperatures, but unfortunately that's not always the case:(

Not positive about Miami in your area. The ones I've seen here in VA that struggle the most through our winters are any in the 'magic' and 'diamond' series. The true dwarf 'dazzle' series or the 'delta' series can struggle a little here too. Miami is a pretty good performer in my area, for whatever that's worth...

I kept a tiny little dwarf CM in the garage all winter, and we had some colder than normal temperatures here this year. It looked like a little bunch of dead sticks, but it is budding out now.

All Elms here, Crepe Myrtle, and one Pear tree are still not showing any signs of life except rubbery branches that scraped produce green, just extra slow this year. Cotoneaster, all Quince are the same. Forsythia, and Goji are just starting to sprout buds. Junipers look normal but even the landscape Yoshino just has floral buds, not near opening.

Long Winter, rough Spring = SLOW, sigh :p
