Sorry no flowers in these pics yet...but some day we'll get there!
I've had this Gumpo Pink for a little over a year I think...
I obtained it in early spring '16....
Did some major chopping and root ball reduction...then let it grow back.
This year, in very early springtime, I removed a few more subtrunks and guy wired the subtrunks down to flatten them out...
Once it started growing this year, I took all my knuckles back to 2 branches to get more light into the interior, to produce back budding that I will cut back to in the future.
I want to make the smallest tree I can out of this, long way to go.
I like the bark it has.
Here are some pictures:

Good work reducing that one. To bad it is usually at the cost of blooms :( I have been doing similar with a Serrisa but think it will certainly be worth it down the road!

Yeah, I came to grips with that before I started... I let a couple others bloom earlier this year, and I planted 5 new ones out front of the house, so I got to see some blooms.

I admire your discipline and Grimmy's as well.
Good Day
Anthony

Thank you and I apprecaite when you encourage others to do the same. A few times I have shown various methods that I thought others might try such as the root spreading on Serrisa but you are the one that encourages them telling them they can! Good man!

Looking good, the bark will smooth out and won'the be as flakes when it gets older. I find that gumpos are harder to keep in for because they want to grow more upright. The color of the flower is one of my favorite pinks.

Do you think the trunks will fuse some day, as they thicken?

Some of the tips have 7 shoots!!! ?

Plan to let it grow out for another month or so and then remove guy wires, cut back, and repot.
Don't have a pot in mind...but I do have some goals for the root mass...
You can see the black nasty shit in between the surface roots...I want to remove as much of that as I can this time, and make the whole thing thinner/ flatter...
This will be the first repotting since the initial reduction from garden center soil...
Wish me luck!....
Psych! I don't need luck! ??

Haha, psych, yes I do.....?...

Could you share your work on the piers in this or other thread?

I had a similar situation with two different pieris trees this spring, work before beauty! Their time to shine will come.
