This was posted in another forum, but I thought it was worthy of having it's own mention on the front page of the site. As a parent, my heart goes out to any parent struggling with an injury to their child. If you are interested in contributing, please follow this link:

Also, it's the last day of the 99 cent FB auction for the week. Lots of things have been donated. Every single penny of from the proceeds of the auctioned items will be going to Roy and his family.
All things or just what you donated?

Any update on how Aaliah is recovering?

First an update. Over $25,000 was raised in the past week! Now a post from Roy from a few hours ago:

"I have tried a couple times to put into words the gratitude I feel. I don’t have words to describe how blessed I am to be part of the bonsai community. Last week sometime, I got a seemingly innocent PM from Brownlee Currey saying that he would like to do something small to help, after hearing about the situation with my little girl. (She was in a bad car accident and suffered a TBI to her frontal lobes, as well as the right side. No one expected her to make it to the hospital alive, much less survive the ensuing surgeries with full brain function! She has a ways to go, but has come so far. The word used to describe her repeatedly by dr’s is “miraculous”.)

I’m a pretty private person, and to be honest, I’ve never been very good at receiving help, with anything. I’m much happier to be contributing to these type things. Little did I know, that conversation with Brownlee woukd lead to MRB, Dusty and others getting involved, and the creation of a gofundme, as well as .99 cent Auction and Bonsai Auction’s hosting a fundraiser event, with items donated to help our family. To all those that worked hard to facilitate this that I don’t know about, thank you.

It’s been overwhelming to see people I have never met, giving and bidding generously, and encouraging others to do so. I was moved to tears many times, amazed and humbled at all that was happening. I told my family what was being done and they were blown away by you all. The money means a lot, and will help so much, but it doesn’t compare to feeling loved and cared about by so many. I am truly thankful beyond words, and pray that you will all be blessed in turn for your kindness. I hope that I can meet many of you at Nationals this year and say it in person. All my love, your friend,
Roy."

This story broke my heart, so I had to do something. Having a daughter, I cannot imagine the pain this family is going through.

Same, plus there is just something incredibly cool about the bonsai community coming together to accomplish something. For as long as I have known, we have been plagued by factions, ego, and just a bunch of difficult people. Things like this, (while we obviously don't like the reason) give me hope for true cooperation which I think can only advance the art and make it that much more accessible.

Not to mention, Roy is just a super great guy. As humble as he is talented and that is a rare combo.
