Just collected these two guys from the banks of the Frio river. Private Property owners permission was obtained before collections. They were literally growing in rocks, and barely had rootballs. I tried to get a soil ball outwith them but it was literally big white rocks that crumbled. I got a little heavy handed and broke a few bigger roots. Hopefully it won’t affect them. Planted them in a mixture of native soil, potting mix, and peat until I can get home tomorrow and can better pot them.

Meet thing two and thing three.

I went back to look for seeds and found these two guys in the river bed. Came out with a tug.

Maybe take more time for preparation next time, breaking roots can cause disease, and I would also try to seach longer, for bigger tree's, these tree's will take some time growing.

I hope the twins survive... they’ve been wind whipped. I wasn’t thinking when I packed them this morning. I keep telling myself that they were going to be trimmed anyway and the roots are still good.

All four are dry as a bone today. Guess they didn’t like being uprooted.

Wrong time of the year, not enough preparation and, most impprtant, barely any roots. Learn what you can and try again next year!

My Ashe junipers seem to have made it though.
