Metal halide?
High pressure sodium?
Same thing but slightly different light spectrums. Straight metal halide is more like summer sun. The HPS is more like the autumn sun. It's for flowering. The ballast and fixtures are the same for both bulbs.
Plug in suns?
They work excellent but they put out some heat.
Never touch the bulb. The temp at the center is lie 1000 degrees. Watch misting. A drop or two of water and it will explode.
Wear sunglasses around them.
If I had tropicals they are what I would use. You can't even tell the flouresescent lights are in the same room with these on. They are that much better.
I was talking to Jerry Meislik at our club show a couple years ago. He was the guest speaker. If I remember right he said he keeps his ficus under 9 ,1000 watt halides in the winter where he lives.

Mike,

you should look into some of the new technology of LED lights. The Chinese, specifically CREE, has had some big advancements in that area. You can get a Chinese LED panels with 5w nodes that provide all the light wave lengths desired, and they draw less than half of what a 1000w ballast draws at the wall. They create less heat, last longer, are brighter, and provide a wider spectrum of light, and are easily repairable. It really has revolutionized the indoor growing of plants.

The earliest "with fig" post I could find was 1/13.

This has been in a constant state of fig since.

From now on.....

When speaking of the good healthy growth on a ficus....

I will refer to it as Figorous.

You have given it a try and it worked so nice for you, @sorce
Bravo!
I see that on the first page you said that P. Tea applied this technique on a Trident maple.
Do you happen to know if this works also on other species? Let's say J. maples?
