For now these ugly but very effective guy wires are still on. They have to stay until end of March next year. From then on this beech should shine in full glory. Such is bonsai: sacrificing present beauty for future quality. Otherwise you will always have good looking trees, but they will not get better.

That’s a real looker, even with the wires.

I have noticed that lots of your trees start in those black plastic tubs, what were they originally for?

That bare bones picture just before the snow picture really shows the great branching.

Thees plastic containers are standard in Europe. They are for anything, like gardening, household, small businesses, starter pots for all sorts of plants. They come in all dimensions and are cheap. To be black is NOT an advantage. They heat up in summer.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately they aren’t common in Canada. I've been searching for something similar for the trees I have marked for collection.

I love this tree. I have been back to it so Nancy times since you posted it.

Definitely inspiration material.

I even went out and bought a large beech from nursery.

Thanks for sharing and documenting so well.

@Walter Pall do you approach pruning beech differently than other deciduous? It seems like the deer randomly pruning have done a wonderful job preparing the prebonsai for you.
