Soooo.... in another thread, I stated that the cascading branch lived on after getting thrown from it's bench when an oak tree fell in my back yard last December .... and I was a little bit premature with that statement. It withered and died after greening up this spring. The tree also lost the live vein on the left side. Sigh... shrug... moving on now. The rest of the tree is growing well now and needs some thinning. I need to decide if I keep that lowest branch now... it was there mainly to keep that now departed live vein alive...

Bummer, although you still have plenty to work with.

It could be just the lighting, but maybe this tree should be tossed off the benches every winter. Its a whole lot better now to me --> its gotten some 'character'. On the other hand, if it is just a lighting effect, congratulations on your improved photography. No matter, I like it more now.

My photographic skills have lagged behind the quality of my trees almost from the beginning of this journey...

Pretty snazzy moss-job!! Slicker than a new set of corduroy dungarees!!:cool::cool::cool:

Don't see a lot of Junipers with such believable and "to-scale" interest in the root spread.:)

Good lookin tree.;)

... and here is the tree after another year of growing followed by some fall clean-up today. It didn't grow that vigorously, most likely due to the spring re-pot and a very mild spider mite issue:rolleyes:. Goals for this one are to move some of the foliage from the main left branch lower and into the space previously occupied by the lost dropped branch, get some fine wiring to more adequately highlight individual foliage pads, and add some deadwood features into the upper trunk.

Thank you for posting this! Great to see the progression from grafting to now. Tree looks amazing, I also love what you did with the deadwood. Question: Do you remember if you did the approach grafts with a whip that was equal in girth to the branch you were grafting on OR did you graft to a thicker live vein? I am a few junipers that I want to try approach grafts with but the grafts need to be made on a thicker live vein and not on a branch, to compact the tree. Hopefully my question will make sense....

If you go back to post #6 in this thread, you can see my process with the grafting. The scions were definitely smaller then the branches receiving the graft.

Would it sacreligous to say that I could go with out the low branch....a more bunjin feel....? (Its also on the inside of a curve).
But this tree is soooo AWESOME!
I love the way you carved up the deadwood.....its not what I'm used to seeing with juniper deadwood....reminds me of @BobbyLane style of carving, which I also appreciate greatly.

Just a relative newb thought of mine, Dave.
I assume the branch will stay as long as it can.... As long as the tree doesn't throw itself off the bench again....
