The interesting thing to me about this tree is not the tree itself, but the vision you will bring to transform it into something wonderful. The richer the tree is in possibility, the more discipline and imagination it will demand from you to execute this transformation. Go for it, Sergio!

Great tree. As @Maros will testify, I've found Hornbeam to be really responsive to heavy root work. I've cut wrist thick ones off & it didn't skip a beat. It won't take many seasons to get it into a pot if that's the aim.

Thank you Fred. Good insight and so true!

Thanks Paul! This is very helpful info.

Photo from yesterday showing progress. The tree exploded this year I believe thanks to the airy and open structure the pumice substrate provides. My hope is next spring I will start major work on it and set the basic structure. I would like to try and keep all of its sub trunks as part of the final design but we'll see. It is a MONSTER and largest piece of material I will probably ever attempt or want!

600 lbs!? I think @Stickroot was just getting rid of as much bad MO clay as pissible. Do you remember the shipping cost?

Pretty sure there's more of these at Adams place.

Famous last words!

LOL!! We'll see but I have gone down in size with my last purchases.

Is it your biggest, @MACH5 ? ?

Martin, I think this one is overall bigger than the Mirai elm. Most likely it will end up being not as tall but is really bulky and cumbersome.

Looking like The Hulk. Will you repot next year?

Bri, I could but it won't need it. I'll leave the roots alone and focus on the top next year. It can stay in that box probably for another two years or so. I like the name BTW!

Sergio, I'd love a photo of the white gazebo (?) in the right of the photo.
And oh yeah, the tree is nice too lol
