Colchicum cilicum.
They don't seem to bother about the weather, they flower almost exactly on the same day each year, the first week in September:

Sweet peas.
They self-sow everywhere in the garden - I don't mind!

A cactus, species unknown.
It was 1 inch tall when I bought it 5 or 6 years ago, it flowered once (one flower). I put it outside when there is no risk of frost. Now it's about 10 inches tall and this years I repotted it. When I saw it had many flower buds, I fertilized it with flower fertilizer:

Rosa chinensis 'viridiflora'. It doesn't get any petals just a bunch of sepals that form in the shape of a rose.
Very interesting! I haven't encountered this before.
Ordinary flowers are structurally the same structually, just different ranks morph into petals, stamens, and pestle. This guy ought to be of interest to plant geneticists (flowerologists? :p).

It is interesting. I took a trip down to Glasshouse Works yesterday. I found just the one and had to have it. Also in the background of the photo is a nephrolepsis with a crest mutation.

Glasshouse is still in business? That's great. They have an incredible selection of weird plants. When I last visited, the place was a disorganized jumbled collection. I didn't think they would last, that was over 10 years ago, glad to see they are still around. They definitely have cool plants. I still have a Euphorbia francois from them.

I've been going for 4 years now and it's always been and still is a disorganized collection. The place is like a jungle and sometimes it's hard to walk through certain places. I think it's fun finding gems hidden in all the mess though. They always have a large amount of orders to be sent out. One very large order to a conservatory when I was there back in July. I think most of their sales are online.

@wsteinhoff - That is really nice, the old, no longer valid name for this was Clerodendron ugandense - and I know a few other species of Clerodendron make pretty decent bonsai. How do you think Rotheca myricoides will do being trained as bonsai?
Yes that's what I bought it as (from glasshouse). It has fairly large leaves but it heals very fast (geese attacked it). It's grown around 2 feet since July so it's not slow.
