I don’t generally LOVE conifers. Or cascade style. Or exposed roots. But this is one of my favorite trees I’ve seen on this site - or ever.

Also, as a bonsai - and BonsaiNut - newbie, I love this thread so much.

Oh, and here’s my only real tree because rules...

This is one of the better threads for sure, it’s also thanx to these rules that this won’t turn into a crap thread like many others do.

My beech, 2 years ago I made the mistake of doing some heavy wiring in winter followed by a quit heavy repot.. lost several branches because of it, it’s back very healthy now but aesthetically... still not sure what to do, maybe just loose the bottom one and make a kind of broom or so.

I would not do this. Keep the lower barnch. Get the one above it to fill out a bit an dyou have a beauty on your hands in my opinion.

Sorry, only have a laveleaf close up of last summer available now:instaposts-5.jpg

Yeah, I won’t be cutting it away soon I think, I’ll see, front is also not fixed at the moment so lots of possibilities.

This ain’t a tree but it’s in a bonsai pot and it’s got some wire so maybe that qualifies..
Okiku, a type of chrysanthemum, I hope they will both flower together.

I would keep the lower branch and grow out the lower right hand side dropping one part! I would also consider a thread graft on the right side a bit lower down. Great tree!
Here is my version of a "Z" style undergoing change of clothes! Collected Ponderosa with JBP approach graft at a suitable juncture to replace the top and natural foliage. Note i am using my vintage chippendale colandar for the JBP! As in it is so old the sideds chip off when i pick it up. The proposed front is the second picture with colandar on the left. the graft is located behind a curved downward jin alongside the current main trunk line and the jin. I have wired the top portion of the graft in position for the new apex. The portion selected for the approach graft has small branchlets in the top area to readily create a new top. This is of course assuming the graft continues to live and thrive.

lovely image, great photograpy.
Here is a Tskumo cypress that i have been developing. it is about 35 years old now, requires constant thinning and pad maintenance, looks great every three or four years when it all comes together. in transition now to adjust to growing out a bit.

Prunus spinosa (Sloe or Blackthorn)

I haven't thinned or trimmed the twigs yet, I may wait until late in the winter to see what happens in terms of flower bud development. Also considering moving it slightly left in the pot, to accentuate the rightward movement (at the moment I feel the movement is somewhat neutral/conflicted). Any views on that welcome.

Work-in-progress Acer palmatum. Working to develop the ramification on this one now. I've stripped the leaves but haven't done my autumn trimming / bud & twig selection yet. Bottom left maybe needs growing out a little more to balance it.
What is the history on this guy?

What is the history on this guy?

I bought it like this in 2003 for £40 (about $50 US).

I then did this to it. Yes, I know it was the wrong time of year (June). Tree didn't seem to care.

After it rooted in the raft position, it then spend several years in a large wooden planter. Quite a lot of work was done to it over the years, including grafting in a couple of the 'trunks' (including the largest one, from a thread graft). Grow, cut, grow, cut, you know the routine. Went back into a smaller pot 3-4 years ago and I'm working on ramification now.

I actually did my autumn trimming/wiring last night so it looks a little tidier now (should really have done it last week when I took the leaves off). Still a little early for that here, but the tree was starting to drop its leaves.

A (hopefully) kick-ass future clump-style shohin. Alpine currant, bought this summer and nursed back to health.

Not quite as flashy as MACH5’s tree, but I thought the colour was lovely, it’s a light yellow-orange that the picture doesn’t show entirely.

Very nice Bri!

Zelkova in yellow/orange garb this year.

Beautiful fall colours
here is A JBP that i am developing. Think it would have been faster to buy a finished tree to play with. this one i started on in 2012. Field grown tree from Telperion. Was roughly 4 ft tall and in a large nursery pot on acquisition. Current height is 16 inches with a 3 inch base.

Here is my shohin tsukumo cypress. It needs a bit of work right now.

I know you did not ask for suggestions but I really like the Chamecypress species and this one is worth dealing with. It has a great base and deserves being highlighted by the careful reduction of the top to bring the top into some artistic proportions with that wonderful base. Just my opinion.
