Imperial Masterpiece
This picture was taken in the upper part of Noord Brabant. But it's surrounded by limboland basically.Where is that WGW? Somewhere in Limboland? I think I read some stuff about pieces of land starting to get protected over there the other week. Btw, amazing to see nature's flexibility and ability to bounce back from trauma!
Winter time is "yamadori"-scouting time for me. So I try to visit another forest every weekend. I visited some sandy clearings in Geijsteren, where there's a huge population of common junipers with a pretty high genetic variation. Some were purple, some were brownhish, others were minty green. There were even some younger specimens but most were 40+ years old. There are some gnarly oaks growing there too, as well as giant amounts of young scots pines. Judging from the piles of pulled dead pines, I'm thinking they want to keep it clear from pines overgrowing these sand patches. That might be a sign that one could easily get permission to collect pinus sylvestris and maybe some nigra.
Of course I'm keeping the best spots to myself ;-) But this one is worth a visit for sure! The junipers have some gnarly natural deadwood. It was too rainy to take pictures though.
