Really nice tree. I would try and figure out some way of changing the sagging belly in the front.

How long has it been planted on that rock?
I really like the belly... this tree looks like a woman. ;)
Never seen something like it.
The belly is perfectly placed

After slight change of position when repotting a few weeks ago the maple now looks better. Full defoliation and editing in June.

Walter, I like the new positioning and I love this tree. I also like how you have it raised up a lip of the pot so that it is easier to appreciate the total image from straight on. One question, how do you keep the soil from washing over the edge when watering, whenever I plant mine like that, I always seem to have the soil washing away from the base and I am always constantly replacing it.

Thanks,

John

My soils dos not wash away a lot. Every year I throw a handful of new top soil at the tree ant that's it.

Hi John. I know you asked Walter and not me but I think I can help you out if you are having that problem.

They are inexpensive so no great risk. It’s a fine mist and will not really wash anything away, could water a pile of perlite without displacing it. At the same time the volume delivery is not too bad. The 2gpm model is best of both worlds. It does take a little longer to water than other things but it’s reasonable. You just have to be a bit careful that you’re not watering only the surface but all the way through because it may be less volume than you’re used to and trees sometimes look deceivingly well watered quickly.

I just bought the 4 different rates package. One of them will be good for outsdoors in summer and one will be better for in greenhouse. Thank you for the tip.
