This is a volunteer found among many young seedlings below my landscape acer circinatum (vine maple). It has pretty red newly emergent leaves, but the leaves look nothing like vine maple leaves! In fact they look similar to a.p. "Trompenburg", but I haven't one, nor is there one within miles of mother tree. Maybe it is a natural sport mutation, but it has a sibling that looks identical.

More on maples (a. palmatum in this case).
A pair of thread grafts (arrows in the direction of xylem sap flow, from roots to leafs/tips). Are they ready/taken or give them more time?

Refresh = all decandling was done 1-5 June 19, so today is 5 weeks + a day or two. During this period day-time highs have been in the high 60sF and nighttime lows in the high 40sF = cool as is normal for Anacortes (everything grows here, just slowly).…..while we're here, do you think we should try your theory about JBP and timing of pruning?
This tree is beautiful, almost a masterpiece.Privet in training, this tree is in the fairy tale privet thread.
looking good from the back side i think

Looks horrible and ineffective. You should share this in that other thread...Several years ago I administered a series of cuts around the trunk of this and several other zelkova serratas.
