Yes Lance I prefer distant views. The small tree moves towards the back slightly but the last segment of the trunk will face forward. It will mimic the movement of the larger trunks. So all will move in unison. Still in progress.

Sure, a ways out yet from a more firmly established image. More about me remembering if those were your thoughts about "the view perspective".
I'd say I prefer a near view. If only because my relative inexperience would somewhat steer me more in that direction....meager skills might not translate appropriately in a visual sense if I attempted something with a more complicated visual que..... 🤔

Some day, I'm going to Jersey, which is funny. Since I grew up in the age of SNL and Joe Piscapo rippin' the "Garden State", you would think it was hell on Earth!!

But... to be clear the small third trunk is not an attempt to create this far view. It has more to do with capturing what happens in nature. I see so many deciduous trees with low growths that eventually turn into smaller trunks. Love that!

Ready for winter. Extremely pleased with the development of this tree. The root base has gotten visibly wider and more impressive while the top keeps gettin more ramified. Made some adjustments and removed a couple of heavier branches that were not needed any longer.

As it looks today.

The texture bark is slowly becoming more pronounced and spreading throughout the surface roots. The small third trunk on the right was wired for the first time and becoming more integrated with the overall design. Notice the long leader left to grow to thicken the next segment of the trunk line to improve the transition with the lower part. I plan on cutting it back drastically in late June of next year.

The short root graft stump that was cut off this past June has now healed completely indicated by the red arrow. Notice I was able to get two surface roots out of the single graft!

3/4 back view. From this angle you can see another root graft in progress.

Such a great tree, Serg. I can view trees and say “that’s a good tree” and not feel anything. This is one of the few trees that gives me that added feeling of appreciation for what I am seeing. Fantastic work. Happy turkey to you and your fam!

I mean...I’m not sure that deciduous bonsai gets all that much better than this. Absolutely stunning!

This has to be the best arakawa I have ever seen, would love to see it up close. I will be working on an airlayer next spring to get me a twin trunk going, nothing will come close to yours though. Nice job!

I look at hundreds of pictures of bonsai most days, looking for inspiration, design ideas and just for the hell of it. This tree is my favourite by a long way - it's just beautiful. Thanks for sharing Mach!

Now I need to update my screen saver from the autumnal shot with it's yellow leaves!

Hi Sergio,

beautiful tree and I can see where are you going with this project. I think your Maples are same of the most amazing art works I have seen so far. Please, I would like to ask how you make a root craft? I would like to try on my tree as I have two cutting from the 2018 season that I could use. In general my question is on the cutting how much you put in the soil after the roots before making the cut for the craft?

Thanks!

Thank you Silverio! Here is a detailed step by step for making a root graft that I made a few years ago. I hope it helps.
