These junipers grow in the wild here. They're usually columnar and upright. But I think they would do well as bunjin.
With a straight trunk like that, I believe that's one of the safest options to go with.

Put that Juniper back and find one with at least one redeeming feature. It should speak to you. It should say something like, "I'm interesting and I don't look like a telephone pole with foliage..."

Since you are newer to the forums I will try to further explain what @Forsoothe! , is trying to say. When you are looking for good material, you really want to take the extra time to find that tree that you can envision a finished tree in. To see it and know where it's telling you it wants to go. Now, when you are newer and still looking for good practice material thats great! Just know that it's just that.

My advise, use what you have to work with for now and look into better material as you get better too.

Got any better pics?

I wouldn't worry about styling it for awhile anyhow, for health, and better/more options.

Usually, you can wire a branch around and bring it into position, but it seems with this tree, that would make it look like a lamp with a clothless shade. Or some kinda upside down squid. Like a tether ball pole with a bunch of chains.

So you gotta allow it enough health to be able to shorten the branches considerably.

This will be a slow, constant battle of balance, to coax good close growth, while ridding growth further out.

The problem is that tip growth is where all the energy comes from.
So one step forward and 2 back is the mission for a while.

Could I make a BunJin out of this?
You can always try. Bunjin seems to be the fall back for thin trees but good bunjin is incredibly hard to get right. That's why you see so few of them at exhibitions. I see bunjin as having twists and bends in the trunk. Not sure that straight will work.
