Bought and initially chopped and roughly styled this tree last year on a weekend my wife was out of town. With an abundance of foliage and buds extending all over I decided to give it an extensive wire. I think it’s turned out to be a great little tree.

I’d really like to reduce the root ball a bit, but I don’t have a good container to put it in.

after purchase and initial clean up.

Dude/dudette. This is mind blowing. What interesting is the branch you jinned I was initially all “oh ya that’s your line right there”. Love seeing different peoples interpretations.

Thanks for saying. There are still a few over straight portions of the trunk, but from cheap stock I’ll take it.

I really like the result, you have found and enhanced the beauty of this small tree.
The pot is original but it gives the impression that the tree can tip over in a strong gale for example.

Thanks Jaco. I def like the direction of the humble little tree. And I know what you mean about the pot. Fortunately the tree is short and squat enough for it to have not been a problem. But I do think it needs a different pot. I’m thinking a slightly larger round. I really like @Soldano666 pots for this tree. Just waiting for the right one to come up on FB auctions!

I really like the evocative aspect of this tree, it is small tree but it lets us imagine a lot of things and its difficult environment (the tree was struck by lightning, weight of the snow which lowers its branches ...)
Well done !

Thank you Jaco!! It should only get better with time!! But that means a lot from you. You’ve got some great work I respect. Question for you. Do you see this tree in an unglazed pot? Or something with a glaze?? I know junipers are usually unglazed but I’m not always sold on that idea.

Thank you, very much for those kind words.
No, I will see it in an unglazed pot and rather sober , I think dark brown is the ideal color for junipers with a slightly more classic shape.

I think that the more the tree has a story to tell, the more the pot must be discreet to "let it speak"

The pot might be a bit too classic and not rustic enough for your tree.

A shell pot might also be suitable I think, they have a very natural appearance.
On the other hand, their disadvantage is that they sometimes lack a little stability.

I mentioned this about one of Smokes trees, and he replied that it was intentional. Essentially he had a literati in a small bowl pot that looked like it could tip over at any moment, but the almost uncomfortable feeling it gave the viewer was purposeful. To evoke emotion, even "bad" or uncomfortable" to the viewer, can be a useful tool. Evocative, like jaco said.

Its a rugged tree, a similarly rugged pot that makes it feel like its been through alot in its life is quite suiting.

This is great guys, thank you. I’m often overwhelmed by pot choices for different trees. My work has gotten much better over the years, but my pot pairings need work. This dialogue helps.
