I would like ti ask if anybody has experience with ground layer or air layer on any pear tree?
I have collected wild pear and it has lousy nebari, new roots are necessary.
Maybe thread grafting could be an option?
Thanks

Air Layer will work and so will ground layer if you refer to the tourniquet method. Fruit trees will ground layer slower though and can take 3 instead of 2 years. That is based on our season here. ;)

Thanks Grimmy. I will peal of stripe of the bark and apply wire also. If it will take 3 years it is OK.

I did air-layer on old pear branch. It worked in few months, I left it there through winter and separated last spring. This is it - photos from last spring.

Ah sorry I didn’t know lol. Just thought maybe wasn’t posted, thanks anyway! Was curious.
Well, the funny part is that the tree did survive attempt and is living. I have to try once again but have a lot of work on much better material and more urgent bonsai work lol

Fair enough :) yes given what I’ve seen of your trees, you do have more pressing work.

If you have a spare 25 years, you can have one of my soft cuttings (that will totally definitely root).

(theyve been stuffed in to a water pot whilst I’m working on the tree, I heard putting them in water for a bit before planting might help, why not!)
