Hi @keri-wms

thanks for the updates, they look fantastic and your success rate is also amazing in seedling cutting.

I am Vin, based in SE UK (Brighton).

I am also trying to achieve the seedling cutting, I am trying to do it on Cedars as well. I hope I get some success.

what are the Do's and Don'ts so far in your experience with JBP seedling cutting.

Thanks again

cheers
Vin

Thanks Vin! I don’t know really as I’m not an expert but in our climate JBP seedlings seem to like an unheated humid greenhouse/mini greenhouse (shaded when too hot but seem ok into the 30’s at least).

I used a craft scalpel so the cut was really clean and normal rooting powder, poked into a small plug of sand set within a really free draining mix. Perlite/bark/Tesco low dust lightweight litter mix with the fines removed. Or just pure perlite!

On the other hand all the cedar seeds I tried rotted in the fridge so I gave up with them!

Thanks that really helps.

BTW I got Cedar atlantica seedlings, I got it from under a large Cedar Atlantica Tree, I am also thinking of making a top cutting into perlite, coco peat mix with heated propagator in winter... lets see, keeping fingers crossed :)

cheers!

Hi @keri-wms

Could you please post the updates on these ones?

I did try seedling cutting finally and got some results :)

Its quite addictive, now trying the 4th batch, hopefully, I get better results.

Damn, that's about as good as it gets. Great job. Hope to see them again in the next updates!
Thanks, few updates, basically 8 weeks after seedling cutting, multiple buds for sacrifice branches. Keeping on very low nutrients but regular doses.
2 inches tall with 6 lateral buds.

Idea is to make shohin/mame size bonsai in shortest possible time.
I have made holes in the pot to have air pruning of roots to gain bulk of roots, once the sacrifice extend, I will plant it in colander to gain maximum girth.
I am trying to achieve around 10-15 sacrifice branches. Lets see.
