I'm in a new house and going to be building some new benches soon. In the past I've done the standard board and cinderblock benches. Very functional and affordable, but would like to do something a little more attractive this time. Before I go get the lumber and start sawing, I thought I'd ask the rabble to chime in with ideas and pics of their own benches. Anything out there that is interesting, different or exceptionally cool? Show us your benches!

My viewing bench, first one you see going down into the Bonsai Pit. Had a thought of painting it bright orange 😂

First time home owner. Decided to add a 16 ft bench to the backyard. Will probably add some smaller display areas and start the landscaping around the main display.

It looks good but.... From what I can tell, it is too small. You are only 2 weeks away from filling that bench. :)

The majority of the spots are already taken or will be taken soon, haha. Trying to leave a lot of negative space.
I like how the wood color matches your fence, very nice.
Thanks. I used leftover paint from the house to paint the planks.

It was quite entertaining to see my wife's face when I said I wanted to build a bonsai bench for the house and then arrived home with two of these in the car.

It’s amazing what a determined mind can haul in a car. Well done. I’m guessing that she was thinking...bonsai: small...bonsai bench: just a little bigger than small 3’ or 4’ tops.

A couple years ago my wife and I moved into our first home. That summer I put together some slatted benches on posts following a design I found on YouTube, pictured here immediately after construction. There is for sure not going to be anything worthy on these benches any time soon, but I like the way they turned out and for now they look great with a bunch of twigs in grow boxes.

I've been using industrial scrap for benches. i really love aluminum extrusion, so any pieces, tables, machine stands, etc. made out of this stuff that's heading to the dumpster gets redirected to my house.😁 i also collect tough metal fencing to use as table tops, along with that heavy duty wire shelving. the maintenance dept' is really cool at the hyundai/kia parts supplier where i work.

Over the summer I had built this bench from some scrape composite I-beams leftover from a work project.

The bench was great for the space, but I've since moved to a new townhouse with a lot less space.

Figured I'd toss these pictures up before they get buried in the phone archives forever.

Come spring, I'll be building a new bench, reusing as much of the material as possible, in this tiny patio I now call my backyard. Stay tuned.

I really dig all of that re/up-cycling - and they look good too.
