I've decided to go shopping tomorrow.

Check back here for some interesting photo's. If everything turns out right, it should be colorful to say the least.

Maybe I will buy a tree or four.

House that for a tease?

Unlike a recent thread from the Nations Capital, mine from this states capital will have pictures.

Hit the road about 6AM and heded north to Sacramento. The club there was also having an exihibt and it did not open till noon, so I thought I would give Murayama Bonsai Nursery another chance. last time I was there about 6 years ago, it looked as if it were almost out of business. I had heard good things about it and that it had really made inroads towards looking like a nursery should.

I was not dissapointed. The nursery was a bloom with azalea's and though the owner told us we were about a week late, it was still colorful.

Specimen azalea were there too. I didn't even ask a price.

Smoke I'm curious, can you give a range of prices for the shimpaku in image 15?
In our part of the country those would be in the $500 plus range.
I've always been amazed how much less bonsai can be in a different region.

White pines are really nice. All imports.

Couple of black pines.

Really nice rock plantings. These contain small azalea and mosses and small plants and juniper and all sorts of things.

A couple piles of the lava I went there for. The light pile is a product called mocha lava. very good, ready to use. The red pile is just crushed red lava called cinder or scree. About 1/8 inch. I can get that locally so I didn't bring any back. The other, 5 buckets. Wish I had brought my truck as I could have taken a skip loader bucket full of this stuff. Pictures on that later.

On to the show. The exhibit was in downtown Sacramento and no trip to Sac. would be complete without a pic of the capitol. Looks pretty much like DC to me.

I took about 50 pictures of the show, but will show a few of my favorites. At least to get the flavor of the event. It was a very nice exhibit.

Really had a fun day. After the exhibit we went to the "Squeeze Inn" for a landmark hamburger as seen on Diners, drive inns, and dives. A hamburger where the cheese is allowed to ooze out onto the griddle and form a 12" collar around the meat and fry there till crisp on the edges. Unbelievable good.

Then for the rest of the day we spent some time in Old Sac. with wooden sidewalks and old buildings. Left the camera in the car as by this time I was tired of lugging it. we ate supper in an old sternwheeler paddle boat. We had eaten there before so we already knew it ws good.

I will be back....as the ghost of Arnold would say.....
