    Seki's various BC's progress thread

I'll take a shot of it tonight. There is now a deadwood strip at the tip. But the two sides seem to have recovered. They may "graft over it someday.

    Seki's various BC's progress thread

Figured I'd start with probably my favorite tree of all. Maybe I'll call this one "I Knee'd U"; my youngest son actually wants me to sketch the final image for an arm tatt. I got this one in about 2015 from another collector. Immediately went in my high end monster pot set up. 😂 It hung...

    Seki's various BC's progress thread

So put up or shut up I guess. I don't have near the internet presence of a lot of these BC guys nor is that my goal these days. I work full time, run a full time goat dairy/creamery/soap-lotion company with my wife whilst keeping an aging ranch form falling apart. Oh and I make a decent...

Wanting to Start a Bald Cypress Forest

I was thinking it was trolling because you pretty much ask every time I post. It kind of reeks of "he must not know what he is talking about because he never shows finished trees" attack. Maybe I'm reading more into it. I had a reply that I would see about cleaning some up for some...

More from my old inspiration files. If anyone can identify the owners I'll gladly give credit.

Wanting to Start a Bald Cypress Forest

Likely true. A lot can be done by submerging or with automated systems.

Wanting to Start a Bald Cypress Forest

As stated already, might be a bit late in the season to do much more than get your materials together. The bigger/better material that goes into it, the greater the overall impact it will have. Kind of on my future project list to develop an extremely mature and large swamp composition...

    Help with Bald Cypress

Texas actually, but... There is a handful of anecdotes regarding issues... Including Dale Cochoy who was no neophyte that treated it like all his subtropicals and let it go dormant in his unheated basement area and watched ut slowly decline after a few years. I get these color variations also...

    Help with Bald Cypress

Yes, they can be tricky to scratch test. Don't pick the thing to death now though. Its either going to pop or its not. There does seem to be some regional variety in BC. I adamantly refuse to sell the better specimens to anyone up North because I have seen too many Southern collected trees...

Bald cypress in non swampy setting

Yes, they are amazingly drought tolerant... unless you forget to water them one. single. day.... One of the coolest trees I ever got to work with was a Root Over Limestone BC that someone had brought in from a San Antonio area river bank. Client would not sell it to me... :(

    Large Bald Cypress bonsai

    Repotting bald cypress - timing?

These? I also use cattle mineral tubs that I get from my feed store. And like I said, the larges mortar pans are a blessing!

    Repotting bald cypress - timing?

C'mon the don't weigh that much! 😂 😂 You know you can dump the water out right? A lot of mine are in the LARGE mortar pans. I also keep mine in kiddie pools. If you are talking the round black soft rubber tubs, any Tractor Supply will have them.

    Bald Cypress Top Chop

I just let the water level in mine fade down for a while then replenish to mimic the natural ebb and flow of the bayou levels.

    Bald Cypress Top Chop

As Hendo said... and if you can't keep up with the water demands put it in a mortar pan. It is already looking droopy in the one pic. And it unlikely that is a knee. The tree is too young and dobtful it has ever seen the requisite conditions; more like a bent back root... Let it grow...

How do I start a Flat Top Bald Cypress?

As far as styling a flat top, catch John Geangal (sp) on Youtube. Also look at the photos of Black Bayou Photography and Ben Pierce Photography. You can pick two branches and wire them out when they lignify and let everything else grow wild.

How do I start a Flat Top Bald Cypress?

The "soil line flare" is about 26" across. The whole mud ball was about 200 pounds. Come-along up a 15' levy and back down to my nursery... Not sure where I'm going with this one- will let it go crazy for a year and see what it tells me.
