    The Rosemary Thread

Great advise from someone with a great amount of rosemary experience. The other thing @Hartinez to remember is they typically do not backbud. I just transplanted another one of mine back into the ground because of it's decline once potted. You sir are respected for your ability to keep yours...

Matching Fertilizer Quality to Tree Quality

Fertilizer is a ratio of nutrients. Primarily; Nitrogen, Phosphate and Potash. I'm not insinuating that you don't know that or understand how the ratios determine application. Rather, I'm asking what determines the quality of fertilizer? Does one brand that contains 3 parts of nitrogen have a...

    BALD CYPRESS

I don't see a problem with removing that branch. Crude, but you get the point.

Help with decision about removal of a branch

It's doubtful. They'll just start budding where the branch meets the base. Shortening the lower branches will induce growth along that branch. However, you want your lower branches thicker to fatten up the base.

    Flowers 2022

@Carol 83 My rose bush looks like doggie doo but wow does it produce some brilliant flowers. Sometimes I have to photograph it in the shade because they're just too bright.

Help with decision about removal of a branch

By example, the plant in the image below is not bonsai (I just pulled it off Google Images). Besides the wiring abomination, it's basically a long thin branch that looks nothing like a tree. Could this ever be a bonsai? Maybe, but it's going to take some time, a lot of time. Keep your lower...

Help with decision about removal of a branch

The brutal truth is you really don't have much to work with at the moment. If it was mine, I'd work on compacting it and strategic back budding until it's at a point where you can work with it and set it on the direction you have planned.

Help with decision about removal of a branch

In my opinion the left branch is useless. The old rule is "prune for taper". If the left branch is the one you're saying has reverse taper then that multiplies the reasons for jinning or removing it. Just my opinion though.

    BALD CYPRESS

Thanks! I haven't left. I read the posts mostly now because if you comment your drawn into a conversation. I haven't had much time for conversation since the hurricane in 2018 but I'm finally getting caught up with the repairs and cleanup.

    BALD CYPRESS

Sounds good. I'm in the Panhandle and one of my Bald Cypress is waking up. It's the earliest I have ever seen it wake up and it's been pretty cold lately. Now I'm going to have to protect it when it gets cold again... I hate doing the two-step.

What’s your latest Bonsai related purchase?

Hahaha! The lid was touching the bark at the top once I assembled it. I didn't want the bark to rub off during shipping so I made the oddball hole. I also didn't want the any of the bark to get damaged removing the Jasmine from the wooden structure so I recommended removing the top to get it...

    The Asian Jasmine Thread

Well, I haven't posted a new thread in a long while. I decided to create a thread not just about this Asian Jasmine but any others out there that people want to talk about. Also, this one is for sale on Facebook and I wanted to create an online reference point for for the new owner to hopefully...

    The Rosemary Thread

Thanks! I haven't gone anywhere. I check in from time to time and see if there's anything I can contribute to. Believe it or not, I'm still trying to get my house back together from Hurricane Michael in October of 2018...

    The Rosemary Thread

I put one of mine in a large cascade container (it's been in and out of a bonsai pot at least three other times). The pot is about 18" deep and I was hoping it would react much like the one you have in the faux cascade pot. But of course it's a rosemary so it gave me the middle finger and hasn't...

    The Rosemary Thread

Thanks! In the ground, mine thrive. I've cut back to watering every other day or so because they always start looking ratty once I get them in a pot. Dieback on the ends seems to be my biggest issue. I'll try watering twice a day for a bit and see if I can get some positive results. Thanks Again!

Problems with a branch. Juniperus Virginiana (Eastern Red Cedar)

I've thought about grafting but I kind of like the sparse ratty foliage though I wish it was a bit tighter.

It's not worthy. :) I've just about given up taking progression photos. I'll see if I can get a current photo this weekend if you're really that interested.
